In January 2017, our team at Slyder Pumps commissioned a pump that runs 24 hours a day and moves 19,000 barrels of fluid daily.

After nearly eight years—2,821 days to be exact—the vibration levels began to climb, signaling it was time for a closer look. We recommended switching to the backup pump while we inspected the original. Upon teardown, we discovered a stick lodged in the third-to-last impeller, causing significant damage to the final stages. However, the rest of the pump, which had been responsible for moving produced water for over seven years, showed minimal wear.

This pump’s longevity is no coincidence. The operator followed our sizing and application recommendations from day one, and they’ve been diligent with preventative maintenance. The other seven units continue to move a combined 133,000 barrels of fluid daily. Based on the condition of the internals from the pump we inspected, the remaining systems could last another eight years—moving over 388 million barrels of fluid.
