The design fix(POKE YOKE version)

???? The Push-Pull Scenario: A Lesson in Design and Transformation ???

We've all encountered those doors with the signs: PUSH and PULL, clearly indicating the action required. Yet, how many times have we mistakenly pulled a door that should be pushed, or pushed a door that should be pulled? ????

Despite our education and life experience, why do we repeat this mistake? It turns out it is not our mistake, it is a design issue. The door isn't designed in a way that triggers our subconscious mind to pull when it says push, or vice versa. ??

This concept was revealed to me during my design thinking class at Southampton University. If we want a door to be pushed open, we shouldn't fix a traditional door handle. By removing the handle, users are less likely to make the mistake of pulling a door that should be pushed. It's a simple but effective solution! ????

This push-pull analogy applies beyond doors, especially in complex transformations where people, processes, and technology are involved. To sustain success, it's crucial to strive for "Poka Yoke" or mistake-proofing. By designing systems and processes that minimize errors and guide users toward the right actions, we can ensure smooth and efficient transformations. ???

Let's embrace the lessons from push-pull scenarios and apply them to our professional journeys. Design and transform with intention, keeping in mind the importance of simplicity, clarity, and mistake-proofing.

Be mindful of the design so that complex transformations become effortless. ????
