The Pursuit of Happiness?
Humanity. What's up with that?
We work to have. We have to work.
And love won't pay the electric bill.
Now there's a conundrum.
Happiness. That's what we seek, right? Satisfaction in ones self, yes?
So why are we so selfish? We fight and struggle for things to have- money, clothes, furniture, whatever. We may use it a while, but then we just give it away. We give things as gifts. We give money.
We offer up worthless things like that with a sad consistency, and we hoard the precious few things of value for ourselves in a quiet selfishness.
We won't give away our love. We won't give away our time. We won't share our feelings and give away our support or understanding. We want that all for ourselves, to keep back as the valuable things that no one else can have.
Because that's our only real contol. And with control comes that other thing- power over others. And that's the king of worthless things, and the epitome of selfishness.
So while doing all that, we then collect up and give away all those worthless things in the name of the love and happiness we can't find. We actually use these things as distractions from the truth so that we can say we're happy, and convince ourselves of that lie.
Money is necessary. Things are necessary. That's the business of life, unfortunately.
But I tell you this: business is just business, and you're not happy. You're only distracted by the things around you. And ignorance is indeed bliss.
Opposing ideas dominate all things, good and bad, want and need.
Life is about direction and choice, and using what little control, and what few valuable things you really do have- to find balance in it all.
It's been said that searching for the key to happiness is pointless, because the door isn't locked. However; it's also been said that the door is as narrow as the eye of a needle, and to enter in, you must put down your baggage and leave it outside.
You may bring in with you only the things of value that you carry inside yourself.
Until you find a way to feel good about giving away the things from within yourself, happiness will continue to elude you.
