In Pursuit of Dinner and a Movie
The Tribeca Film Festival (April 20th-April 30th) is back in town, and in turn, we’ve created a series this week on the classic “dinner and a movie” outing.
It’s something we’ve all done since we were kids. We’ve gone with our parents, our first dates, our best friends, our brothers and sisters. The dinner-movie two-step outing is a contained and easy out-of-house adventure. We eat and we’re satiated, hopefully by great food that we can’t make ourselves, and then we’re transported. Likely to another place, inside someone else’s life, where they’re dealing with something that maybe we're not dealing with exactly, but maybe that we’re kind of dealing with. Or at least something that we could imagine dealing with. Maybe we’ve never gone from 13 to 30 on a doll-house wish, but maybe we’ve wished we were someone else, or at least, another, better version of ourselves.

And so, we’re big advocates of dinner and a movie on a regular basis.
Because not only are you taking a journey to the theater, and the world that's been created for you as an audience member, but you’re taking that journey next to other people. You’re seeing the same images, hearing the same words, and you’re connected at that moment. You’re surprised, and delighted, and scared, and you think new thoughts at the exact same time. Isn’t it a perfect, painstakingly-crafted reminder that other people feel what you feel? Isn’t it the reminder you needed to keep on keeping on, just like everyone else is? Someone, somewhere, has decided to tell you a story that they really want you to know and understand. It means a lot to them, to maybe mean something to you. So this week, let's all go to dinner and a movie.
