In pursuit of Digital Engineering Productivity

In the US, since 1990, manufacturing output grew 71.8% while manufacturing employment fell 30.7%. This means that in 2016 the United States produced almost 72% more goods than in 1990, but with only about 70% of the workers. Over the same period, US manufacturing labor productivity grew by more than 140% (Ref. NCCI : Impact of Automation on Employment in Manufacturing)

Look at the chart here to see how only 70% of US Manufacturing workforce has become so productive that they are producing 72% more!

You see the grey areas that seem to trigger a fresh round of productivity increase while reducing employment?

Those grey areas, friends, are past recessions!

Most economists are agreeing that we are either into or going into a mild (or not so mild) recession. Everyone (and their employer) are aware that we are living in recessionary times. Most are aware that (while there is still scope to improve), the productivity pump-up of major industries such as agriculture has already happened long time back while that of manufacturing has already reached peak in early 2010s (see the chart above).

So, the question is, productivity in which industry would be transformed irreversibly and disruptively in this recession?

The answer (however eerie it sounds for those like us who have spent decades in this industry), is, "The Information Technology Industry"

That disruption, that eye of storm, at the intersection of productivity, automation and employment in the Information Technology Industry: that tumultuous area called Digital Engineering Productivity: that is where you will find Horizon4 Digital Solutions.
