In pursuit of destiny and purpose.
Oladele Dosunmu
Passionate about seeing the Alkebulan of my dream emerge. I am unapologetically African. We are building the Emerging Alkebulan. Titles don't matter. Disrupting the status quo. Thought provoker. Pan African to the core.
I am writing this piece based on my daily observations of the human race. I see a lot of people very unhappy everyday, people lost in thoughts in their daily journey to oblivion. I don't want to generalise, but the majority of people haven't got a clue of what their destiny and purpose in life is. Statistics does back that up as well, with only a few people having a clarity on what their true calling in life is .
Destiny, sometimes referred to as fate, is a predetermined course of events. Purpose can be defined as the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. To summarise both of these definitions together, in my lay man terms, "Knowing exactly what you are on earth to do".
Do you know what God's calling for your life is? If you don't know please I suggest you take time to discover what it is, as mentioned above, if you don't, time won't wait for you. Here are a few questions that can help you out in the process of self discovery:
- My purpose: Why do I exist? What is God’s plan for me?
- My vision: What is the end or result I can foresee?
- My goals: What do I plan to do? What do I want to do? How can I make it unique?
- My objectives: Why am I doing this? What are my reasons and motivations?
- My plan: How will I do it? With whom? When? Where?
- My strategy: How can I refine it? How long will it take? What is my timetable? What resources will I need?
Even though we have to go through the hustle of life to make a living and make ends meet. This is inevitable, but in the course of you making someone else rich off your sweat, find time daily to do something for yourself; Studying, reading, researching and basically try to discover your gifting. God created every human with a gift which is unique to you and to no one else, if only we take time to discover it.
In a nutshell, we all get agitated and angry at one point in our lives, we feel uncomfortable at where we are in our life journey, when you get these feelings, it could be a sign for you to take charge and change your direction. As humans, we tend to ignore this and blame the world for our misfortunes rather than taking ownership over our lives. My favourite preacher and mentor Myles Monroe quotes "Until purpose is discovered, existence has no meaning, for purpose is the source of fulfilment". To get to your destination your purpose is an integral part of you. If it's going to be you are the driver of your destiny, make your life count.
