Pursuing a Second Master's Degree: My Explanation for Applying to Interdisciplinary PhD Program

I firmly believe that the next phase of human discoveries extends beyond the in-depth understanding of specific fields like physics, biology, and chemistry. While pioneers like Isaac Newton have uncovered gravity and the laws of motion, and biology has achieved significant milestones in human anatomy and genomics, we are approaching a plateau in specialized breakthroughs. The key to the next wave of discoveries lies in embracing interdisciplinary research.

Many technologies that significantly impact modern life, like X-ray machines and microwaves, were originally intended for different purposes but found innovative applications in diverse fields.

I encourage everyone to explore diverse academic challenges. For instance, an ecologist could learn programming languages or delve into computer science to model complex systems in natural environments. Embracing various disciplines can lead to innovative solutions.

Personally, I find fulfillment in navigating two disciplines—Aquaculture and environmental science. These fields enable me to approach thinking both with specialization and from an interdisciplinary perspective. Advocating for the blue economy, and circular economy, and addressing concerns such as climate change and biodiversity conservation, I acknowledge the significance of merging expertise from diverse domains for holistic problem-solving. As I aim to persist in this trajectory, I welcome any information on interdisciplinary Ph.D. projects aligning with my expertise. Kindly share them with me if you come across any.

There are numerous avenues to gain interdisciplinary knowledge beyond pursuing two master's degrees. For instance, engaging in professional development programs, attending summer schools, and participating in fellowships are alternative pathways.
