Pursuing Passion in the Midst of Daily Responsibilities: Lesson from Patience

Pursuing Passion in the Midst of Daily Responsibilities: Lesson from Patience

This morning, I received a gift box at the office—inside were beautifully crafted napkins, perfectly packaged and embroidered with intricate designs. What makes these napkins special isn’t just their beauty but the fact that they were created by my colleague, Patience, who has a passion for knitting and embroidery. To say she exceeded my expectations is an understatement; many colleagues were in disbelief that she did this work herself.?

Patience’s talent and dedication to her craft inspired me to reflect on how we approach our passions in life. Society often conditions us to prioritise financial security above all, suggesting that our passions can wait until we have "made it." But life requires more from us. Yes, some are fortunate enough to align their passions with their careers, but for many, this is not the reality.

For most of us, fulfilment comes not only from our careers but also from the pursuit of our passions. And even if circumstances are not perfect, we can still find time—if only an hour a day—to engage in the things that bring us joy.?

Patience’s story is a testament to this. While she practices law, she has also found time to pursue her passion for embroidery. Not only has she succeeded in creating something beautiful, but she has also earned from it—I, for one, will happily pay for her work. The joy she exudes from this "passion project" is palpable, and it reminds me of the importance of staying connected to the things that make us feel alive.

If you're lucky enough that your career is also your passion, cherish it. But if not, find pockets of time in your day to pursue what brings you fulfilment. Don’t wait until tomorrow—there are no guarantees for what tomorrow may hold.?

Today, Patience taught me that pursuing your passion while fulfilling your professional responsibilities is not only possible but deeply rewarding. I hope this story inspires you to take that small step towards reigniting your passion while you manage the demands of your career.
