When I was younger, I spent a day in my best friends’ house. There were 3 of us and we must have been around 6 years old.?
At a point, their help had to go to the market so the three of us were left at home alone.?
At first, it was fun. Then we noticed a gecko on the wall close to the ceiling and that was the end of our fun time.?
That was probably our first time seeing a gecko. That’s the only explanation I have because I’m not sure why we were so scared.?
We basically spent the entire afternoon and evening, crying and shouting. By the time their mum came home and saw us crying for a gecko, she had a very good laugh.?
I remember her telling us that it couldn’t harm us but we were already drained of tears at that point. We just wanted to be out of the room.?
There's a saying: The things you cry about now, you will laugh at them in the future. Whenever I hear that, I remember this story.?
We were so sure we were going to be harmed, the tears we cried that day could probably fill a bucket??
Years later, I remember it and laugh.?
Now I can’t see a gecko and run in fear anymore because I am older and wiser.?
When people say time heals all things, it’s not just time, but the growth that happens in that time.?
If no one had told me wall gecko’s are harmless, no matter how much time passes, I would still be scared, I’d probably still be running away from them today and I would look completely insane??
But from that experience, I learnt a lesson, and with the passing of time, that lesson has informed my actions.
The experiences we have are meant to teach us lessons for the future. Lessons to make sure that negative experiences are not repeated and positive ones are. But if you do not learn those lessons, you go through life making the same errors again and again.

I have always believed that age does not mean maturity, rather maturity comes with what you purposefully learn in the years you have on earth.?
Experience does not mean wisdom either, wisdom comes from learning from those experiences.
This week I was reminded of the importance of this purposeful and intentional growth.?
Your body matures with the right nutrients, so does the mind. What are you feeding your mind??
If you constantly find yourself walking down the same negative paths you walked down ten years ago, maybe you need to stop and ask questions.?
The same way it would not make sense for me to still be as scared as 6 year old Dee, it doesn’t make sense for you to live in the same fears and errors of years ago.?
There are people that have passed that road and never looked back, find them, follow them and make up your mind to learn lessons that will make you older and wiser!
RANDOM FACT OF THE WEEK: there’s only one word in English that ends with the letters “mt” and that’s the word, “Dreamt” and its derivatives like; daydreamt, etc. Very interesting??
I wish you a week full of added knowledge!
See you next Sunday!
Your trusty growth partner,
Dee?
