Purposeful change: One year on
Today I celebrate one year with Enervest! A year full of hard work, steep learning curves and change on a level I’ve never experienced before.?Anniversaries are a great opportunity to pause and reflect…and this one particularly so.?
Having worked in the Education and Recruitment industries, the opportunity to join Enervest in the clean energy sector 12 months ago signalled the beginning of my third career. Since 2007 (when I sowed the seeds for Eco Recruitment) I’ve been a passionate advocate of clean energy and the exciting opportunities our transitioning energy industries offer globally. I’ve been fortunate enough to recruit for the energy sector, always learning so much along the way and continuing to understand the scale of the task ahead. Actually getting a foot inside the door of this industry however, was a more challenging story.?
In Dec 2020 after serious deliberation with my family, mentors and trusted advisors, I made the decision to step out of the recruitment industry and seek a role in clean energy. Six months of zoom calls and interviews only led to more zoom invites until Melbourne lockdowns finally eased and I was able to meet “IRL” at the Sydney smart energy conference. Following a series of face to face meetings, opportunities started to spring up and through this I met the highly affable and driven Ross Warby - MD of Enervest. Ross took a punt on me as someone who was probably smart enough and driven enough to get on board and help out wherever needed.?
From a work perspective, this year has been one of the most challenging I’ve faced. At times I’ve felt completely out of my depth and as though there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get the work done…and there’s plenty to do! Behind all of this there have been two very strong driving forces.
One is the sense of purpose this work brings - I genuinely feel what we’re doing is important.?Even on the hardest days when you feel you’ve achieved very little, the overarching purpose behind our work means each day matters.?

Secondly, I’ve been driven by the strong vision set out by our leadership team. We’ve charted a course through some unknown waters, however the capability of the captain and crew?keeps our ship sailing (very quickly!) in the right direction.?
So one year on here’s my reflection in a nutshell:
I know the next 12 months will be full of more change and challenges, but if there’s one thing I hope for in my second year with Enervest it’s that our purpose, our culture and our spirit don’t change at all.?

2 年Very inspiring words Jason! I had not realised the extent of your change in your professional life. It has clearly been the right decision. Low and zero-carbon energy is an exciting and hugely important field to be working in. Keep it up!
