Purpose - Why your why really matters

Purpose - Why your why really matters

It has always mattered

Purpose has always mattered, but the disruption of the last few years has epically magnified the importance of purpose for many of us.

Being isolated and having our lives turned on their heads really made us think about the importance of a fulfilled and purpose driven life.

A life where we are guided by meaningful goals and values. A life where we believe what we are doing matters, makes a difference and has reason. This can be related to family, parenting, career, religion, art, community, charity - anything!

But where most people get stuck is trying to change the whole world at the same time.

When playing small can pay off

It isn't often you will find me telling people to play small, in fact I stand for quite the opposite. However when it comes to purpose, having a little perspective can go a long way.

So what do I mean? Well purpose doesn't have to mean world peace, curing cancer or the next big invention. It could be much simpler, like using your talents and your unique edge to help those you love.

Doing work that utilises your unique talents and capabilities is being purpose-driven and you will find yourself heading towards a more engaged and fulfilled career, business and life.

Purpose (coupled with a strong vision) motivates, engages and carries you through the tough days.

Knowing your small actions are aligned to your bigger picture helps you with productivity and engagement. And vice versa, knowing your bigger picture and purpose helps you strategically decide how to allocate time and effort.

That might look like making decisions about future job roles, deciding to take the leap to start a business or simply deciding to scratch a goal off your list that no longer contributes to your purpose.
