Over the years, some of my friends, colleagues, and fellow business leaders across the globe have struggled to understand and differentiate between the two core business concepts of Purpose and Vision.
Even the sharpest minds (I have come across) get entangled in this core concept of ethical businesses. I called these ethical businesses specifically because they have a strong innate desire to do something beyond just making money (at any cost).
Let me help you distill these two core concepts to help us on this journey to make this world a better place.
With every great endeavor in history, two burning questions have been at its heart:
'Why do we embark on this journey?'
and
'What is the dream we're chasing?
Let's unravel the captivating dance between Purpose and Vision, and discover why distinguishing between them can be the game-changer in any mission we undertake.
In my 23 years of global professional experience, I've navigated the complexities of various cultures, tackled challenges head-on, and led diverse teams toward shared aspirations. Each experience has solidified my belief in the power of understanding our 'why' and our 'what'.??

Reflect on this quote for a moment: "It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves."
Imagine with me for a moment that you're on a journey. The purpose is your 'why'. It's the core reason you've set out on this journey in the first place. It's your motivation, the fundamental reason behind what you're doing. It’s like your compass, your intrinsic motivation, guiding every step.
Now, let’s talk about Vision. If the purpose is your 'why', vision is your 'what'. It's the destination you envision for yourself at the end of this journey. It's that vivid image of the future you're aspiring to reach.
So, to simplify: If your purpose is the deep desire to explore and experience the world, your vision might be standing atop K2, taking in the breathtaking view.
In essence,
your Purpose is the driving force, the heartbeat of what you do. And your Vision? That’s the dream, the aspiration, the peak you're aiming to summit.
I hope that clarifies things. Until next time, keep your purpose and vision close to your heart.
