When Reputation meets Purpose

When Reputation meets Purpose

With the second month almost over, how’s 2024 working out for you? Clear on your purpose? Is it aligned with the brand you own, work for, or regularly purchase?

February’s edition of the The Reputation, looks into Purpose and Values. Some organisations are encouraging employees to find their purpose. And the signs are, by doing so there’s an increased level of employee engagement. Equally, when it comes to values - there’s an expectation from employees that leaders comment on macro issues. By doing so there’s an increased feeling of inclusion. But is there a communications strategy in place to guide a leader when faced with needing to communicate to colleagues?

Creative purpose

Do you have a Purpose? Have you written it down? Is it aligned with the organisation that you're part of? What about the products you buy? Do their owners have a purpose? Clearly stated? Articulated in a way that brings you on board and revitalises their employees? Being creative on purpose isn't easy, but our Director, Neil Griffiths explored the subject further in his recent blog.

High expectations

Employees have increasingly high expectations from their employers beyond just a salary. They anticipate companies to actively support and advocate for various causes, while also taking concrete steps towards addressing environmental and social concerns.

CERIPH believe strongly that those organisations that take a stand (particularly on EDI and ESG) and put their proof where their promise is, are the ones who will gain an edge in hiring and retaining people - and indeed customers.

So good...

The 'Happiness Index'

The biggest benchmark for businesses should be staff satisfaction, according to James Timpson. With just one simple question Timpson Group measures colleague happiness and in 2023 they had an 86 percent response rate. We love how Timpson recognises that “the way colleagues feel reflects the way our customers feel. If we get it right, customers will enjoy the experience of shopping with us, and return.”?

Not so good...

Taxi for Lyft

If you are having a bad day at work, spare a thought for ride-sharing company Lyft, who on 13th February 2024 saw their stocks surge by 67%.

Great news right? However, all wasn't as it seemed, as an extra zero had accidentally been added to their Q4 results, mistakenly projecting that its margins would expand an astounding 500 basis points, as opposed the real estimate of 50 points.?

Respect goes to Lyft Chief Executive David Risher who later said, “It was a bad error, and that’s on me.”?

Final thought...

Sometimes creativity can come from the most unexpected places. For example, via a polar bear?who is making?the most of their physical environment?and carved?out an ice bed on an iceberg. Kudos to photographer Nima Sarikhani's award winning image in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition.

Next month CERIPH will be exploring?the topic of physical environment in the context of the workplace.
