Purpose Study Bible 150: Your Priestly Provision
God took care of the people's needs in the Wilderness through manna and quail, but in Numbers 18, He turned his attention to the provision for the priests and Levites since He gave them no land as He did the other tribes:
"I give you all the finest olive oil and all the finest new wine and grain they give the Lord as the firstfruits of their harvest. All the land’s firstfruits that they bring to the Lord will be yours. Everyone in your household who is ceremonially clean may eat it. . . The Lord said to Aaron, “You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites" (Numbers 18:12-13, 18).
In the New Testament, we learn that all believers are priests: "You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:5) and "[Jesus Christ] has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father" (Revelation 1:6). Therefore, since God spelled out with great detail how He would provide for the Old Testament priests, how much more will He now do the same for us who serve His new order:
"So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" (Matthew 6:32-33).
Where are you living below your assigned provision as a priest of God? Where are you allowing concern for what you will "eat and drink" to interfere with your Kingdom service and assignment? Where have your low or limited expectations of how and how much the Lord will provide been fulfilled?
