The Purpose of the "Sale" at TRT
My whole career as a sales professional around the world and as a business owner, I have been told by manager and employee alike, that the main purpose of selling was to get that PO, that meeting or the renewal. Many sales managers devote their whole careers in getting their sales personnel to focus on precisely that. We have many sales professionals come to into business development, client management and direct marketing positions, conditioned to that end game. But the TRT's sales managers and myself are troubled by the self evident fact that a mediocre sales effort can get a PO, a meeting and renewal. While a magnificent sales effort can lead to a lost PO, meeting or renewal. Getting that elusive PO, meeting or renewal from a client or prospect does NOT necessarily demand a great sales effort be required from the initial to the final contact and every contact in between. At TRT we expect nothing less and we do not sell any other way. Many incoming sales professionals interview one way and get a role at TRT. Then try to "teach" us to change our standards, try like hell to teach us directly and indirectly by "managing their manager" to their standards. At TRT we are stubborn, we are determined to hold ourselves and our sales professionals to a higher standard than getting a PO, Renewal or meeting. Selling at TRT is a "work of art" as TRT sales professionals are told during the induction as that is what we believe and that is what we are out to make it every step of the sales process. Of course we want to get a PO, meeting or renewal, those in our team, our prospects, clients and competition are never in any doubt how much we are there for the PO, meeting or renewal. But "how" we get these objective is MORE important than getting these targets. Many current successful BDM's, Client Account Managers and Direct Marketing Associates considered me and the sales management "hard" or "basket" cases, but we get it through to them that the real purpose of selling is to not only get that elusive PO, meeting or renewal. It is to test the limits of our emotions, spirit and intellect. That's what happens at TRT and no place, no team does it better and no body does it more often. So when considering a role at TRT and in particular in our business development department, consider what is your purpose in selling. It is to just get that PO, meeting or renewal? If so then I am sure that there are many other companies that are aligned to your thinking.
