POST OF THE WEEK - #MOONSHOTS

There is a lot of talk of ‘moonshots’ these days – those super-ambitious goals that can galvanise innovation and inspire us to great heights. I would have three moonshots for 2050: 1) to see a carbon positive world, with 100% renewable energy and carbon sequestration products and technologies at scale; 2) to meet the biodiversity conservation target of 50% of land and coastlines protected; and 3) along with increased veganism, and for ‘cultivated meat’ to have replaced livestock, thus ending the suffering of billions of animals. What would you moonshots be?

POEM OF THE WEEK - #COMPLEXITY

We’re moving through the tangled maze / Connecting and reflecting / We’re weaving on our loom of days / Creating and remaking

The map is never true nor clear / The path is never straight / And yet a pattern will appear / For we who watch and wait

We’re surfing on the waves of change / Trusting and adjusting / We’re dancing through the halls of strange / Twirling and unfurling

The music beat can always shift / The tides will ebb and flow / And yet a movement will emerge / To take us where we need to go.

This unique title draws together some of the best thinking to date on the pressing social and environmental challenges we face as a society. These are the Top 50 Sustainability Books as voted for by the University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership’s alumni network of over 3,000 senior leaders from around the world. In addition to profiles of all 50 titles, many of the authors share their most recent reflections on the state of the world and the ongoing attempts by business, government and civil society to create a more sustainable future. Many of these authors have become household names in the environmental, social and economic justice movements, while others are relatively undiscovered gems, whose work should be much more widely known.
