PICTURE OF THE WEEK - #POPPY
POST OF THE WEEK - #TRANSFORMERS
Who drives sustainable transformation? Is it government, business, customers, media, scientists, entrepreneurs, the public? In complex systems, all of the above. But some lead and others lag. We can learn lessons from the anti-plastics movement. It started with non-profits complaining but having no real impact. Business and government was content to make superficial responses (like litter education campaigns). Meanwhile the science was building. But it took entrepreneurship (notably Boyan Slat with Ocean Cleanup) and media (numerous documentaries) to trigger consumer/public pressure. Legislation followed (EU Plastics Strategy, Basel Convention changes,?etc.). Now we get serious innovation, investment and change.

POLL OF THE WEEK - #GENDER
According to the World Economic Forum's Global?#Gender ?Gap Index, a 42% gap still exists for economic participation & opportunity (equal?#pay ?for equal work, equal participation in all?#careers ?and sectors, equal representation in top?#management ?and on the board). On current trends, it will take 268 years to close the gap, which is outrageous! What do you think: how long should companies be given to achieve gender parity before governments either force compliance or shut them down?

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK - #CATHEDRALS
Cathedrals are built one stone at a time, and although they may take generations to complete, they would not exist at all if someone hadn’t been bold enough to lay the first cornerstone. The great philosopher, Lao Tzu, was right: the journey of a thousand miles does begin with the first step.
