When you discover your purpose and know the reason why you were born; you hate nights because you do not want to go to sleep. When you go to bed, you cannot wait for the sun to rise. You cannot wait to start again. People who discover their purpose in life love living.
If you are bored everyday of your life it’s because you do not know your purpose. Discovering your destination will make the journey fun even when they are some detours.
Any pothole or mishap in the face of a purpose driven individual it’s an encouragement to keep going because they know the address of where there are going. ?Everyone has a vision for their life – most of the time when one see’s himself or herself doing amazing things disbelief cloud their mind whether it is possible or not.
What gives your life meaning?
According to researcher William Damon, who wrote; A Path to Purpose, purpose is a stable and generalized intention to accomplish something that is at the same time meaningful to thy self and consequential for the world beyond thy self. Purpose is a continuous journey, it guides life decisions, influence behavior, shape goals, offer a sense of direction and create meaning. For some people purpose is connected to vocation – meaningful and satisfying work.
For others, their purpose lies in their responsibilities to their family or friends. Others seek meaning through spirituality or religious beliefs. Some people may find their purpose clearly expressed in all these aspects of life. Even the Bible affirms purpose in Jeremiah 29 verse 11 and Job 42 verse 2 respectively – For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” and “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”
Your life is built on the premise that you fulfil your purpose. We all have a mandate to fulfil here on earth. It is through that we are able to have what we have today. Just think of this – where could we be if Mark Zuckerberg or Strive Masiyiwa were stingy with their ideas?
These questions fuel your ability to self-introspect on what your purpose is in life.
Who am I?
Where do l belong?
What is it that makes me fulfilled?
Four categories of people exist with regards to purpose.
The Dreamers
They think about, and possibly express, great ideas, but they have not yet taken any practical action.
The Disengaged
They do not have a sense of purpose in life and do not have any desire or need to find one.
The Dabblers
They have engaged in potentially purposeful activities without committing to one particular or sustaining their efforts over a long period of time. They may struggle to articulate their “why”.
The Purposeful
They have found something that is personally meaningful to them and that contributes to the greater good. They have sustained interest over a long period of time, and they can clearly articulate their “why”.
The secret to a fully alive life is to reframe your life questions over and over. One of the ways you can discover your purpose is by creating vision boards, following your hobbies, noticing what you like yourself to do, asking others; what they see - you are good at, being adventurous and seeking to discover what makes you wake up in the middle of the night.
The two most important days in your life is the day you are born and the day you figure out why. If your heart is beating and you are breathing it reflects that there is a purpose for your life. When you are filled with confusion as to what your purpose is, look unto God and ask – He will align you to your purpose.
As Dr. Myles Munroe said, “where purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable”.
