Pure life or pure soul?

Pure life or pure soul?

Exclamations are words used to express emotions. Awesome! Cool! Pura Vida! Namaste! The literal definitions of these interjections are very similar. Yet, when expressing emotions, it seems almost impossible to think literally. And limiting.

In Costa Rica, you frequently hear the phrase, “Pura Vida!” Simply translated it means pure life. In that sense it is used as a greeting and as a farewell. You can use it to mean “chill, peace, everything’s cool,” but it represents so much more.

It’s living the good life…cherishing simple pleasures…spending time with loved ones…and enjoying a slow, relaxed pace of life. And Ticos, natives of Costa Rica, inherently fertilize, cultivate and harvest the phrase through the virtues of generosity, benevolence, and industriousness daily. A spiritual surrender to nothing but life; Pura Vida!

Considering Namaste in the same context, it too began as an exclamation meaning “I bow to you,” used as a salutation. Although, spiritually it has grown to mean so much more.

Namasté represents the knowledge that you and I are one. That beneath the outer trappings that make us appear different, my soul recognizes your soul.

Intriguing and thought provoking, it appears that, when spoken genuinely, ‘Namaste’ is recognition that someone else has found ‘Pura Vida’, a spiritual peace. And it shows.

Today’s action: When you connect with people today, notice what level you’re connecting at. Is a greeting just a greeting? Or are you truly seeing and understanding them.
