Purchasing Guide for FPV Drone Parts
Without a doubt, beginners can absolutely build FPV drones even without any experience!?If you want to build one and are unsure about how to choose from so many parts for FPV drone, you’ll understand it all after watching this video: How to Choose FPV Drone Parts.
Step 1: Choosing the Size of the Drone to be Assembled
If you’re busy with work and limited to practicing indoors or in small spaces, recommend to choose a drone with a wheelbase ranging from 65 to 85mm. These small inch drones are suitable. If you have a more open flying space, you can go directly for a 2-inch to 3.5-inch drone, but remember to stay away from other people.
Once you are familiar with flying the whoop, you can move on to larger size drone for advanced practice. Regardless of the size, the basic structure of the FPV drone remains the same. Each frame has compatible motors and batteries.
Step 2: Frame
Choose a frame based on your needs, which is the most basic and important of the FPV drone parts. When purchasing a frame, ensure that the flight controller’s mounting holes match, otherwise is may not able to mount.
Step 3: Motor
When selecting a motor you need to pay attention to the KV value. The KV value of the motor is like the engine of a car. Higher KV motors provide more power, while lower values are more power-efficient.
Step 4: ESC and FC
When choosing an ESC, choose one with a higher current rating value than the motor’s maximum value.

FPV drones have three common flight controller types. The small-sized flight controller with a 20*20mm mounting hole is suitable for micro and long-range drones. The integrated flight controller and ESC combo is known as an AIO (All-In-One), typically used for smaller drones. Larger stacks are intended for 5-inch drones and above.
Step 5: FPV VTX and Goggles
FPV VTX and goggles come in analog and digital formats. If you’re only flying within a small area or interested in racing, an analog VTX is suitable. However, for freestyle and cinematic, it’s better to invest in a digital system.
Step 6: Receivers and VTX
There are two protocols for receivers and VTX modules: ELRS and TBS Crossfire. ELRS, with its high refresh rate, is ideal for extreme freestyle flying. If you care more about stability, simplicity, or long-range flights, TBS Crossfire is the better option.
Step 7: Radio Controllers
There are different radio controllers on the market, recommend to choose one priced above $100. While ensuring basic functionality, select a controller that suits your hand size. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate to return it.
