Puppy Grammar

"I just don't get it..." When learners?struggle with basic English grammar, their problems?usually centre?on dealing with verb forms, causing a tense situation indeed.?So...

What's the real issue?

Of course, there are many engaging ways to explain grammar, but do they address the real issue? Do they focus on trying to explain complexity, or on actually breaking it down??

If coursebooks and explanations prove complicated, confusing and demotivating, the answer is easy: simplify!?

Oh, grammar, what big teeth you have!

To struggling learners, grammar may seem scary and intimidating, especially if they’re expecting a ferocious wolf and?have been bitten before.?

Yet?grammar is what we make of it, as are its perceived dangers.?Imagine the turn-around when that big bad wolf proves a harmless puppy.

Thoreau: Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify, simplify!

So... simplify!

Simplifying otherwise complex grammar is at the heart of the One Rule. So when struggling students meet the One Rule, their?I-don't-get-it lament soon becomes an is-that-all??sigh of relief.

The One Rule approach empowers English learners. Grammar should help, not hinder. Less is more. Simplify!
