Punkt Q3 Updates.

Punkt Q3 Updates.

Hey, LinkedIn,

We hope you are doing well!

I know this is a little late, but hey, we're a small team, and we're doing our best to keep you guys informed about every little update.

With that apology out, let's go:

While you were enjoying your summer vacations ??, watching the Olympic games with all their controversies, and relishing the great moments and memes of the Turkish Shooter ??????, we were hard at work, progressing on our roadmap with new releases and updates.

Before we dive into what we've been cooking up, we want to address your questions and clarify your expectations about Punkt and its purpose ?????.

Through conversations with our lovely early adopters, we noticed a perception that Punkt is a content-first UX mainly for websites. This isn't the case. Our roadmap is ambitious and aligns with our vision to cover a wide range of use cases:

  • Desktop and web apps
  • Kiosk interfaces (e.g., TV apps, ATMs, fast-food ordering touchscreens)
  • Native mobile apps (iOS and Android) in the future

So, in other words:

Punkt supports all types of UX projects, from websites to mobile apps. Our Studio, where you'll see your information architecture and content design work come together, adapts to different project needs with appropriate viewports.

This flexibility helps your team structure and design content for specific user devices. When creating a Sitemap, choose your project type to ensure the Studio provides the right structure and viewports for your pages/files.

Now that we've clarified Punkt's versatility, let's explore this month's updates on UX Layouts for software!

Punkt for Software App Design: Plan your entire app UX and content design ???.

Thanks to the new App Layouts in the Studio, we've been working hard to build the foundations that enable teams to strategically design content-first UX for software and apps.

What are App Layouts? App Layouts form the foundation of your app's design, similar to master templates in PowerPoint. You can design them once and use them across all your pages. This allows you to concentrate on the content that matters rather than constantly recreating layouts.

The App Layouts option is added to the Studio's left sidebar alongside Layers, Symbols, Overlays, Assets, SEO Settings, and Dumps, together shaping the Studio pillars that make the prototyping experience faster, more effective, and less repetitive.

Layouts are automatically and exclusively enabled for your app projects (Mobile app, Web app, Desktop app), which you can set up when creating your Sitemaps document, as explained earlier.

Additionally, the Layouts library (located on the left side of the Studio) helps you save all your layout designs in one place so you and your team can reuse them whenever needed.

By preparing the structure for the app/software views before you start working on the content design, app design becomes easier and allows your team to deliver more consistent experiences.

__

Quick Recap:

  • Pick familiar Application Shells or App Layouts, or go with your imagination. Once saved, your team will focus on what matters the most, keeping the UX consistent across all the app pages.
  • You can set a layout structure as "Master" (It will be automatically used as the default layout for all app views in the Studio).
  • App Layouts cover a wide range of application types: Web Apps, Touch Screen Kiosks, TV Apps, and soon Mobile Apps.

Punkt's Application shells: Structured Designs for a Comprehensive User Experience ??.

Using Punkt App Layouts, you have the flexibility to construct diverse user interfaces, either by applying familiar UI patterns influenced by leading apps or by starting fresh with a blank canvas to explore your ideas.

__

We cover the following Application shells:

  • Stacked Layouts
  • Sidebar Layouts
  • Multi-Columns Layouts
  • Blank Canvas

Note: We're covering out-of-the-gate RTL Languages, including Arabic, Hebrew, and Persian.

With these pre-defined App Shells, you can quickly build applications. They serve as starting points for your team, allowing them to concentrate on the specific content and design elements of each view, therefore not wasting time on structures and unnecessary repetitive work. The outcome is a consistent user experience that lessens the cognitive load.

How to benefit from that? You can easily save your custom layouts in the Layouts library. Keep your custom layouts in the Layouts library. Provide Context Notes to instruct your team on when to apply each layout, ensuring efficient and coordinated efforts.

In addition, we’re now tracking how many pages or screens these application shells/layouts are used in, giving your design and engineering team a global overview from an architectural standpoint. This means the team can focus more on core features and logic and less on redundant planning. You’re welcome ??

__

Quick Recap:

  • By using Layouts in the Studio, you can now pick from our world-renowned Application Shells—ranging from Stacked Layouts and Sidebar Layouts to complex Multi-Column Layouts—or create your own custom App Shell.
  • Design, save, and reuse different App Shells for various use cases in your app, such as onboarding, authentication screens, data dashboards, and forms. All are trackable, so you’ll know how many pages or screens use each App Shell.
  • Use Context Notes to guide your team on why you’re choosing one shell layout over others. Document all your ideas, logic, and rationale behind your decisions so your team—from research and design to engineering—is on the same page with you all the way up to production.

Design and Ship Single Page Applications’ UX like never before. ??

After releasing Punkt for Websites, we’re now launching Punkt for Software, kicking it off with SPAs (Single Page Applications)—also known as web apps or web software. These are the applications you use every day, from Gmail and Netflix to government services and bank portals.

How are we doing it?

We’ve built this from the ground up with over 500 ready-made templates. Your SPA UX will be significantly faster, giving your team more quality time to iterate, prototype, and test without building complex, expensive prototypes using code or Figma. This approach prevents overburdening your team with heavy tasks lacking context.

What do we mean by ready sections and templates?

When we talk about ready sections and templates, we're referring to a curated collection of pre-built components available in your Studio. These components are designed to streamline your web app development process and boost your productivity.

Our Version 1 lineup includes a diverse range of elements, carefully crafted to meet various design needs. The magic happens as soon as you specify in the Sitemap document that you're building a web app. At that moment, these ready-to-use components spring to life, populating the "Add elements" section on your sidebar.

This feature empowers you to create faster and more efficiently. Instead of starting from scratch, you can leverage these pre-designed elements as building blocks for your web app. They're flexible enough to be customized to your specific needs yet robust enough to provide a solid foundation for your design.

By utilizing these ready sections and templates, you can focus more on the unique aspects of your app and less on recreating common elements. It's our way of helping you bring your web app vision to life with greater speed and ease

Here's the scoop: Hey, did you catch that???? Yep, you saw it right – we're handing out our Figma kit for free! No strings attached.

Here's the deal:

  1. Connect the Punkt Figma Plugin
  2. Watch the magic happen as everything syncs up
  3. Boom! It's all there in Figma's native Auto-Layout format

What does this mean for your UI designers? They get 90% of the work done in a snap! All that's left is the fun stuff:

  • Adding those eye-catching shadows
  • Perfecting those round corners
  • Splashing on your brand colors

Pretty sweet, right? Your designers can focus on making things look?chef's kiss?perfect while Punkt handles the heavy lifting.

__

Not a Quick Recap:

  • SPA UX redefined without built-in components and templates system that syncs design with Figma and pushes content, structure, and data to code through API, giving your team the fastest and cheapest way to build better UX by focusing on content, quickly iterate on live prototypes, and test using our User testing tools to validate all assumptions and ideas, all in one single platform. Did I say we're redefining the UX process? Well, we are.
  • Next, we’ll use these components to build larger sections, further accelerating your work. Think of them as ready-to-use large sections or blocks that you can quickly edit according to your use cases—for example, tables with filters, onboarding flows with forms, pricing tables, data visualization charts, dashboards, profile pages, and so on.

SPA Localization 10x faster ??

Planning to deploy your software across various regions worldwide? No problemo!

How? Using the same localization process we implemented for websites, your localization team can accelerate their work by drafting translation content for different locales. With AI assistance for quick drafts (choose your preferred LLM), your team will work faster and more efficiently than ever before, all while having sufficient context and guiding notes on every word and line, including the company’s goals in marketing, conversion, cultural nuances, and legal considerations.

Once approved in the Studio, your prototypes will be automatically updated with the new content, enabling localized user testing before moving to production.

__

Quick Recap:?

  • Streamline localization process
  • AI-assisted translation drafts
  • Contextual guidance for every line
  • Align with marketing, conversion, cultural, and legal requirements
  • Automatic prototype updates
  • Efficient localized user testing

Save time, reduce risks, and launch confidently in multiple markets.

Finally,

Other updates in a nutshell

  • Style Guides Quick jump sections: Say goodbye to endless scrolling! Every page now features a small sidebar on the right; click on any section heading to jump there instantly.

  • App General UI Fixes R1: As we move out of the private beta, we're breaking things along the way to streamline the UX across the board, so we kicked off an App General UI Refinement Mission to make sure we're tightening all the bolts and little scratches here and there, more on this in the next email update.

  • We've dropped Google Fonts: In an effort to keep our users’ security intact and prevent tracking by third-party sites like Google Fonts, as well as simplify our GDPR compliance, we have decided to use Bunny Fonts. These fonts ensure zero logging, no data sharing, GDPR compliance, and hosting in Europe. With that said, we’re doubling the font rendering speed and retaking control of our users’ privacy.

That’s a wrap,

Stay tuned as we're approaching our Public Launch.

And if you're not already part of the early adopters, you can reserve your seat here: www.punkt.co
