Tip – Punch it Up!?Be like my fabulous client and “punch up” your speech, talk, difficult conversation or presentation!??Here’s how…
Luke Campbell MBE – the Olympic Gold Medal winning boxer asked me to help him with his speech for a big corporate event in Hull (up North in the UK), so I jumped on the train (they were running that day) and we got punching.
Luke had loads of great stories including the moment he won his Olympic Gold Medal and the day he got his MBE from the Queen. I mean, what’s not to like?
How YOU can punch it up.
If you need to say a few words at the staff bash or welcome your clients to the festive drinks….
Here are?3 easy-to-adopt tips?you can use to punch up your comms instantly…
1 – CHUNK IT UP!?Chunk up your content.?What? Yes, create small chunks out of your material, for example craft lots of little stories out of your ‘life story’.??Or, if you’re presenting – create smaller chunks of content out of your slides.?Each “angle” is a chunk.?Each piece of data is a mini chunk.
It makes learning and editing your talk, conversation or presentation so much easier to manage.
2 – SNAP, CRACKLE, POP!??They say three is the magic number.?When storytelling we often like to list things; examples of fights, conversations, projects… all in one go.?Make your mini rule of thumb – to mention three things at one time.?
(True story,?one of my legal clients once had a speech with 19 points in a list…arhhh, I almost lost the will to live).?
3 – FEELINGS v FACTS.??I won the gold medal, I stood on the podium, I looked out over the crowd. Great. These are facts.?They are great facts, however they don’t pull at my heart strings…yet.

What we really want as an audience, is to know how he felt at that very moment right??Ha ha.?
Even if words couldn’t describe the feeling at that time, I encouraged Luke to transport himself into that moment and describe what was going through his head.
And guess what??He did a brilliant job; he re-lived that moment for us and won over the crowd.
These are just three tiny tips that will help you punch up your presentations, pitches or any kind of conversation immediately.
