L3Harris Technologies announced the signing of a definitive agreement under which an affiliate of TJC L.P. will acquire L3Harris’ Commercial Aviation Solutions (CAS) business for US $800 million. The acquisition includes a US $700 million cash purchase price and US $100 million earnout. The CAS transaction includes the sale of L3Harris’ surveillance joint venture.
Axiom Space?is going all-in on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in support of its terrestrial information technology (IT) infrastructure. By migrating its enterprise IT to AWS, Axiom Space looks to provide its engineers, ground operations, and business development teams the terrestrial cloud infrastructure necessary to enable development of its next-generation commercial space station. Axiom Space and AWS will continue to collaborate on validating cloud-based hardware and software capable of supporting in-space workloads.
CGI announces it is a member of the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association (MISA). MISA provides CGI access to Microsoft’s security product portfolio, offering greater value and comprehensive security to clients. MISA is an ecosystem of independent software vendors and managed security service providers that have integrated their solutions with Microsoft’s security technology to better defend against a world of increasing threats.
Arcfield has completed its acquisition of Orion Space Solutions (Orion). Combination will deliver space superiority and resiliency solutions to U.S. government agencies. The acquisition of Orion enhances Arcfield’s space exploration and hypersonic detection and tracking capabilities for agencies in the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community.

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, NTT DOCOMO, NTT Communications Corporation, and SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation announced they have formed a strategic collaboration with Amazon’s Project Kuiper. Leading global technology and business solutions provider will work with Amazon’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite broadband network to bring Japanese customers the flexibility, resiliency, and availability benefits of LEO communications technology. This is the first strategic collaboration Project Kuiper has announced in the Asia-Pacific region.
Quantum Dice announces the launch and use of the Zenith Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG), a product designed for space, to enable secure quantum communication technologies in the upcoming SpeQtral-1 satellite mission. SpeQtral-1, SpeQtral’s second quantum key distribution (QKD) satellite will serve as a commercial pathfinder and demonstrator to define the future of global quantum secure communication services. This pioneering mission features Quantum Dice’s Zenith QRNG, SpeQtral’s entanglement and weak coherent quantum payloads, and a laser communications system in a 16U CubeSat.
Tata Advanced Systems and Satellogic announced their collaboration for establishing and developing local space technology capabilities in India. The project will commence with comprehensive training, knowledge transfer, and local assembly of optical sub-meter resolution EO satellites, the first of which is planned to be launched as TSAT-1A. The companies will collaborate on the development of a new satellite design and work together to integrate multiple payloads on a single satellite that will generate a diverse range of data over India.
Ursa Major closed US $138 million in its Series D and D-1 funding rounds. The investments were led by Explorer 1 Fund and Eclipse, and include RTX Ventures, funds and accounts managed by BlackRock, Exor Ventures, Mack & Co., LLC, XN, and other institutional shareholders. With this investment, Ursa Major will continue to develop Lynx, the company’s innovative new solid rocket motor (SRM) program, while scaling production capacity and advancing multiple propulsion programs.
In space, Canadian tech is seemingly everywhere you look. The International Space Station, NASA’s Artemis program, and the James Webb Space Telescope have benefited from it, and the country also boasts a sizeable fleet of communications and Earth observation satellites. With such a sparkling resume, one would expect to see a hardy commercial satellite sector to match. However, apart from the odd contractor and one telecommunications giant, the field is rather sparse. What does exist, however, is a host of younger companies working to fill newly emerging niches in the industry – but will they be enough to put Canada on the map as a space power to be reckoned with?
