SaxaVord Spaceport becomes the first licensed vertical launch spaceport in the UK and Western Europe following. SaxaVord has a roster of clients including Rocket Factory Augsburg, HyImpulse, Lockheed Martin/ABL Systems and Skyrora. The licence permits SaxaVord to host up to 30 launches a year, allowing the spaceport to grow as the UK space sector continues to expand.
HawkEye 360 announced the acquisition of RF Solutions from Maxar Intelligence, a provider of secure, precise, geospatial intelligence. With this acquisition, HawkEye 360 gains ownership of two existing RF satellites (Charlie and Delta), RF scanning intellectual property, and a multi-year global database rich in RF collections ranging from 1.4 GHz to 40 GHz. The two new satellites bring HawkEye 360’s total constellation to 23 satellites and facilitate the detection, characterization, and geolocation of radio frequency signals from a broad range of emitters used for communication, navigation, and security.
Sierra Space?has delivered the first Dream Chaser spaceplane, Tenacity, to NASA’s Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky, Ohio. Dream Chaser, the world’s only commercial spaceplane, has entered the final testing phase ahead of?its?first flight in 2024. The testing campaign will confirm the spacecraft’s resilience to the challenges of launch and the demanding conditions of space as it prepares for its inaugural mission to the International Space Station.
Sidus Space Announces Issuance of New U.S. Patent for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Filter Unit
Sidus Space announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued a new patent, No. 11,839,028 B2 (the ‘028 patent). The newly granted ‘028 patent, expected to secure exclusivity until at least September 1, 2041, marks a paradigm shift in the aviation industry’s approach to cockpit gauge stability. This groundbreaking technology is embodied in an Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Filter Unit, meticulously designed to filter unwanted interference in aircraft systems, thus enhancing the reliability and security of cockpit instruments.
The combination will bring together complementary capabilities to create a UAE-based space technology champion with an implied market capitalization of over AED 15 billion (over USD 4 billion), based on both entities’ closing share prices as at 18 December 2023, and a free float of 21%, with further significant upside potential for revenue growth and synergies. The combined entity will create a vertically integrated leading provider of AI-powered geospatial and mobility solutions, satellite communications and business intelligence

The merger will establish a platform for transformative technologies to enable space-based services with significant impact on societies and economies. The combined entity will yield considerable revenue synergies and economies of scale, and will best position the organisation for innovation and profitable growth. Bayanat and Yahsat shareholders will own 54% and 46% respectively of the new combined entity, with strong institutional backing from G42, Mubadala and IHC, which will own approximately 42%, 29% and 8% respectively.
NASA astronauts Nicole Mann and Doug “Wheels” Wheelock participated in a recent test of a sub-scale mockup elevator for SpaceX’s Starship human landing system that will be used for NASA’s Artemis III and IV missions to the Moon. The elevator will transport equipment and crew between Starship’s habitable area, located near the top of the lander, and the lunar surface, as they exit for moonwalks. The elevator mockup has a full-scale basket section with functioning mechanical assemblies and crew interfaces for testing.
Axelspace Holdings Corporation today announced that the company completed its Series D funding round raising approximately JPY 6.24 billion (equivalent to US $44.0 million). This brings the cumulative amount of equity financing to approximately JPY 14.3 billion (US $100 million). Axelspace Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Axelspace Holdings, will use the new funds to meet more diverse customer demands.
Vice President Harris announced the United States Novel Space Activities Authorization and Supervision Framework, a new policy that complements the National Space Council’s (NSpC) legislative proposal, the “Authorization and Supervision of Novel Private Sector Space Activities Act”, which was transmitted to Congress in November. Vice President Harris tasked the NSpC to develop a proposal for the clear and predictable authorization and supervision of commercial novel space activities, taking into account space safety. Novel space activities are those that are not directly regulated under the current U.S. ?regulatory system for private sector space activities.
The Ariane 6 Launcher Task Force consists of top management of ESA, as the overall Ariane 6 procuring entity and launch system architect, of the French space agency CNES, as the launch base prime contractor, of ArianeGroup as the launcher system prime contractor and of Arianespace as the launch service provider. On 15 December, 2023, teams from ArianeGroup, the French Space Agency (CNES), and the European Space Agency (ESA) successfully carried out another launch sequence of Ariane 6. ESA, CNES and ArianeGroup are targeting the first launch of Ariane 6 between mid June and end of July 2024.
