From agriculture, the insurance sector, through maritime and infrastructure, Earth observation satellites even help mitigate problems arising from climate change on our planet. Space-based research in microgravity environments improve healthcare, while numerous scientific experiments and technical demonstrations give us deeper understanding of the world surrounding us as well as making everyday life easier for us.
Ligado Networks today sued the U.S. government for its unlawful taking of Ligado’s constitutionally protected, exclusively licensed spectrum without compensation. The U.S. government misappropriated Ligado’s exclusively licensed spectrum to support previously undisclosed Defense Department systems that have been using Ligado’s spectrum without permission. The lawsuit seeks just compensation for the government’s physical, categorical, regulatory and legislative takings of Ligado’s property.
Blue Origin has unveiled Blue Ring, a spacecraft platform focused on providing in-space logistics and delivery. Blue Ring serves commercial and government customers and can support a variety of missions in medium Earth orbit out to the cislunar region and beyond. Blue Ring can host payloads of more than 3,000 kg and provides unprecedented delta-V capabilities and mission flexibility.
Urban Sky announced an over-subscribed US $9.75 million Series A financing round co-led by New Legacy Ventures, Lerer Hippeau and Lavrock Ventures, with participation from Catapult Ventures, Union Labs VC, DA Ventures (a Denver Angels Affiliate), and TenOneTen Ventures. The company will use the funding to scale its commercial imaging operation, develop advanced stratospheric technology, and broaden its sensor portfolio. Neuraspace has partnered with Arcsec for a groundbreaking new way to detect space debris, enabling it to track smaller objects and improve orbit calculations. The companies will harness the exceptional precision of Arcsec’s space-based star trackers for the detection and characterisation of space debris and resident space objects. Processing the data will allow Neuraspace to analyse the movement of and assess the risk posed by even minuscule debris particles down to three centimetres in size.
HawkEye 360 announced the second and final close of the company’s Series D-1 funding round with an additional US $10 million, bringing the total Series D-1 to US $68 million. Investors for the second close included Lockheed Martin Ventures, the venture arm of Lockheed Martin Corporation, and company insiders. The funding will be used to develop new space systems and expand analytics that support high-value defense missions.
AnySignal has closed an oversubscribed US $5.0 million seed round. The funding will be used to execute on a considerable backlog of commercial and government contracts.
