NASA’s First Asteroid Sample Has Landed, Now Secure in Clean Room

NASA’s OSIRIS-REx team successfully landed a capsule of rocks and dust collected from asteroid Bennu. The capsule was transported by helicopter to a temporary clean room set up in a hangar on the training range, where it now is connected to a continuous flow of nitrogen. The returned samples will help scientists worldwide make discoveries to better understand planet formation and the origin of organics and water.

Yahsat Awarded US $5.1 Billion Satellite Capacity and Mandate by UAE Government

Yahsat’s government services arm, Yahsat Government Solutions, has received from the UAE Government an Authorization to Proceed to provide satellite capacity and managed services for 17 years. This mandate, valued at AED 18.7 billion (USD 5.1 billion), combines related operations, maintenance and technology management services of ground segment satellite systems and terminals currently provided under a separate contract. Under the new mandate Yahsat will provide the Government with secure and reliable satellite capacity and related managed services.

Sierra Space Increases Total Investment to a Record $1.7 Billion with $290 Million Series B Funding, Bringing Valuation to $5.3 Billion

Sierra Space has closed a US $290 million Series B funding round. Round is co-led by a Japanese strategic partnership comprising MUFG Bank, Kanematsu, and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance; expands Sierra Space global partnership network. Also includes investment by General Atlantic, Coatue, Moore Strategic Ventures & Sierra Holding Company with participation from funds and accounts managed by BlackRock Private Equity Partners, AE Industrial Partners and Vice Family Trust. Sierra Space increases total investment to US $1.7 billion; industry record for combined Series A and B raises. Company achieves US $5.3 billion valuation in closing US $290 million Series B funding round; Sierra Space also has US $3.4 billion in active contracts.

Eutelsat Communications announced the completion of its all-share combination with OneWeb, following the approval today at the Ordinary and Extraordinary General Meeting of Eutelsat shareholders. UK Launches £65 Million Funding Call for Space Technologies and Applications

The UK Space Agency has announced up to £65 million (US $79.59 million) of funding for ground-breaking innovations that could boost UK leadership in space technologies and applications. The National Space Innovation Programme (NSIP) will support high-risk, high-reward projects designed by British organisations. NSIP funding will be split between major projects and kick starter funding.
