Artspace Receives Regional Design Honor

At Montgomery Planning's Celebrate Design event last week, co-hosted with the AIA Potomac Valley chapter, an independent jury of accomplished design and development professionals honored three developments with Design Excellence Awards. One of which?BKV Group's Artspace Silver Spring Arts Campus which was the named the Winner of the Design Excellence Award for Exceptional Housing. This was an incredible honor for the project and the community which turned a former police station into a thriving creative hub featuring affordable housing for practicing artists.?Cheers!

Learning By Design Recognizes KidZone with 2023 Adaptive Reuse Award

Kid Zone Early Learning Center?has provided robust whole-child early education for over thirty years, with a curriculum centered on a child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. To advance its mission, the organization engaged?BKV Group?to facilitate Kid Zone’s relocation from a former church classroom building into a former medical office building transformed to meet Kid Zone’s operational and curricular needs. The building was fully reconfigured on the interior, replacing three dozen office and treatment rooms with seven classrooms, an indoor large motor play space, administrative offices, and a full-service commercial kitchen. In addition, the project included the creation of new dedicated outdoor play spaces and areas for the school’s gardens. This month, the thoughtful and transformative space planning and design work of this project was honored in?Learning By Design Magazine's 2023 Awards of Excellence as an Outstanding Project in the Adaptive Reuse category. Congratulations to our client, Kimble Company, and our BKV design team members on this well-deserved award!

According to?RealPage?data, the student housing sector is expected to deliver 37,000 new beds in 2023 and a projected 31,000 in 2024. Despite being below average historically, the student housing projects are more cutting-edge than ever by having a unique emphasis on sustainability, health and wellness, technology and services. Senior Design Leader and Managing Partner,?Jack Boarman, shared with?National Multifamily Housing Council?the significance the architect plays in building with less material waste and designing a community where students are free "to express themselves, feel connected, and share experiences."?
