Breaking Down Medical Speak – Stat!
Navigating medical notes and diagnoses can be difficult for patients as is. But, when they do not understand the medical jargon or native language of their provider, it becomes even more nerve-wracking. So, doctors must clearly communicate a patient’s health conditions and post-care plans before they depart from the hospital.?
Unfortunately, during their stay, patients may be under a lot of stress, reducing their ability to retain information, resulting in an increased risk of readmission if they do not fully understand their diagnosis and the self-care required for a successful recovery.?
Luckily, AI continues to amaze me with its capabilities. Now there are new technologies emerging that can translate and transform medical notes, so that the patient can take home care plans tailored to their literacy levels.?
Vital offers an AI tool that is “designed to transform highly technical medical terminology into plain language that any patient can understand.” Along these same lines, health policy officials in California are hoping to utilize AI to translate medical documentation and applications into multiple languages to ensure better care access across the state. This can significantly reduce stress for patients post-discharge and help them accurately understand their medical conditions no matter how caught up they are in medical terminology or what language they speak. Ultimately this will lead to better patient outcomes and fewer readmissions.?

The Vital Signs – Why Managed IT Services for Healthcare?
In the healthcare industry, adoption to new technologies has always been slow. However, that is starting to change with the speed at which new, innovative solutions are emerging. But, for many SMBs, maintaining these technologies takes a lot of work. They often do not have the resources to staff and scale an in-house IT/cybersecurity team that can continuously meet their growing needs.
So, how can healthcare leaders support their care team by providing them with the IT solutions they deserve, while simultaneously ensuring strong cybersecurity and reliable performance for those solutions? Well, I’ve been thinking, it is not uncommon for care teams to outsource services, like laundry and waste management…so why can't they employ a managed IT service provider as well??
Managed IT services offer much more for healthcare teams than convenience. They are a strategic asset that enables care teams to deliver high-quality care by offering enhanced HIPAA compliance, threat management, and specialized expert support. In my most recent blog, I dive further into the importance of managed IT for healthcare and guide your team through choosing a provider that is right for them.?
