This week's highlights include… Cush Jumbo is saving television one UK mystery at a time. Graydon Carter's Air Mail has taken off, and just when we thought Oprah could not be any wiser, she turned 70 and is dropping some Yoda level wisdom. And we've got everything you need from tea & biscuits to cozy socks and hand cream to keep you warm and soft all winter long.
Hi! I'm Marta Ravin, a Gen-X media, marketing, self help newsletter, beauty product and gift giving junkie (I know it’s a lot of vices for one person to have!!)? So every week I’m going to sort through the best tips, quips and dips (I’m also a sucker for a good appetizer recipe) and share them with my subscribers.? I hope you find this curation helpful. And please chime in with any and all suggestions in the comments of what you want rounded up next!
Welcome to this week’s edition of The Ravin Roundup : Cushing Season! No, it’s not a typo. I’m replacing "Cuffing" with "Cushing" because UK National Treasure, actress Cush Jumbo, is literally on at least 5 different mystery mini-series right now and I CANNOT get enough of her!
1. WHAT I'M WATCHING:
Well after The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Reunion left me completely gutted and alone, because although ratings were through the roof, only 3 people I know actually watch the show and there was SO MUCH to discuss. I decided to take a break from reality television, make myself a cuppa and drink in the latest Cush Crime, Criminal Record on Apple TV +.
Now be warned, this show is a bit of a departure from Cush's, Harlan Coben wheelhouse, so there are no beautifully manicured lawns and a horrific lack of double-ply earth tone cashmere, but Cush still rocks it. She plays a rookie detective who butts heads against a grizzled slightly dirty cop, Peter Capaldi, who makes Denzel Washington in Training Day seem as squeaky clean as Erik Estrada's partner from CHIPS.
I'm only on episode 4 of Criminal Record, but I'm hooked and looking forward to the rest of the 8 episode season.
And Wednesdays are about to get even more interesting. This week FEUD: Capote vs. The Swans premieres Wed 1.31 and I cannot wait!!! And just so you don't have to google it here are the ages of the all star cast:
Naomi Watts (55), Diane Lane (59), Chloe Sevigny (49), Calista Flockhart (59), Demi Moore (61), and Molly Ringwald (55).
I'll definitely be reviewing neck cream as a companion piece with the show next week.
2. NEED TO KNOW NEWSLETTER:
Remember in the 90's that feeling on a Saturday, post Tae-Bo workout, dipping your feet in perfectly warm sudsy pedicure water, crunching on a Zone bar and cracking open the brand new issue of Vanity Fair ? Well veteran journalist and editor, Graydon Carter has recreated that experience with his "lively digital weekly for the world citizen" Air Mail.
The premise of AIR MAIL is simple: we supply you with articles on subjects both foreign and domestic—ranging from politics and the environment to art and literature, style and fashion, and high-end crime and beyond—by some of the world’s finest journalists. For the most part, these are stories you will not find anywhere else.
And of course my favorite part is the guest curated ridiculously expensive shopping section!!!! Remember the Panama blue $250 Smythson notebook Gwyneth brought to her ski crash trial every day? Well Air Mail has MORE expensive notebooks by Metier !!! Plus clothes, gadgets, accessories, and beauty!! I was VERY excited to find on the site, C.O. Bigelow's Bergamot Hand Cream t hat at $16, I could actually afford, and it has not let me down all winter long. My hands don't look a DAY older then Chloe Sevigny's.
Now as you can imagine, the Air Mail newsletter is a bit pricey but I find it a lovely indulgence and the BEST part??? It arrives in your inbox with the subject line, "Graydon Carter here."

3. WHAT I'M DRINKING/GIFTING:
Now keeping with our Cushing Season theme, next on the Round Up is the best tea to drink when curling up to those Brit-steries. PUKKA!

My favorite blend is chamomile, vanilla & Manuka honey but they all are delicious and the artwork on the boxes is gorgeous and 100% recyclable and printed with vegetable based inks! Go ahead- eat the box! (No, I'm just kidding, don't eat the box). Amazon right now has the perfect luxury self care selection gift box . $21.99 for 45 tea bags in 9 different flavors.
And if you’re looking for a Biscuit to pair it with…I’m always a fan of the free Delta Airline Biscoff snacks. And it turns out you don't have to get on a plane to enjoy them. Amazon has those too!
#4. PHILAN-SOCKIT TO ME
And just when you thought we couldn't get any more Cushing Cozy- here comes the BOMBA!!! You may know that Bomba makes super comfy and colorful socks. But did you know they also are completely committed to Giving Back? For every one sock that is bought, one sock is donated. And they're not just about feet. They also make t-shirts and underwear which along with socks are the three most requested items in homeless shelters. Side shout-out to my dear friend Liza Persky who always has socks in her bag that she gives out to homeless people on the streets of NY. She's the BOMBa too!
#5. OPRAH'S 70!!!
And she shared this nugget of wisdom in her Oprah Daily Insider Newsletter.
My word for this year is praise. Praise for God, praise for life, praise for every moment. I begin with praise and end with gratitude. That’s my formula for a life that reciprocates in abundance and beauty.?
Happy Birthday Queen!!!!!
