Puerto Rico needs the mainland more than ever..
The devastation in Puerto Rico is catastrophic and is becoming a humanitarian crisis of exponential proportions. I know, because I have 8 members of my family there and spoke to my nephew, Carlos, yesterday.
There still is no electricity, water, very limited gas, and no communication on most of the island of 3.5 million people. It is literally becoming the survival of the fittest.
Right here in Fairfield, CT, Save the Children has mobilized a relief effort targeting the needs of Puerto Rican children and families. You can trust them with your donation. I urge you to give generously to their fund at https://www.savethechildren.org/Hurricane-Maria-Relief.
In any event, please give whatever amount you can, and do it as soon as possible, then like this post and share it with everyone you can. The situation is dire and help is needed now. Being 1,000 miles from the mainland makes this relief effort particularly troublesome.
Remember, Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens and have been for a long time. In fact, 20,000 were drafted during World War I, beginning in May 1917, when the first regiment was created.
