If a website uses cookies, both own and from third parties, they need to explicitly take a user’s permission to read their cookies or other trackers. There is no escaping that. When used, cookies help you gain a better understanding of reader behavior. But what if you could collect compliant consent and monetize your audience?
A Cookie Wall With An Alternative
Some publishers are actively making use of a cookie wall, where users are provided with two options - grant access to track cookies for consuming the articles or choose the cookie-free alternative, by asking readers to subscribe, register or make a one-off payment.?
With this, publishers can increase the cookie consent rate for higher ARPU. You can also monetize in other ways by asking readers to access content, such as paying to subscribe or creating a free account. This however is not considered a good practice since readers are not provided with an option to reject tracking of cookies and is not GDPR compliant.?
