I've been doing photography and videography for quite sometime now, I've always enjoyed photography and videography. Capturing the greatest, caught off guard, fun, exciting, precious or wow type of moments. I had taken a short break from photography and videography for awhile to focus on my career in music though I was still doing taking photos and videos from time to time with my phone I wasn't actively pursuing it to the fullest extent that I started out doing until a few months ago when I attended a local bar where a Band was playing and it happened to be Grammy Award Winning Trumpet Player/Jazz Musician - Willie Waldman - The Willie Waldman Project, the evening of the event I decided to take my phone out and start filming and film has always come natural for me so I was able to capture some great angles of the band along with getting to meet Willie Waldman and it sparked the interest to want to start pursuing photography and videography a lot more actively.
A few days later while browsing Facebook, I came across the local Bar's Facebook page and gave it a like, I also commented on some of the photos that were taken by the Bar's staff that evening and mentioned how great of a time I had, the owner of the Bar had replied saying he had saw me taking video of the band and the bar and would like to talk about working together and potentially filming a commercial there. I was grateful that he had noticed and thought it is really time to kick into high gear on the videography.
So I began filming more events and occasions around the valley known as Star Valley in Wyoming. One of those events is a Wyoming tradition. The Cutter/Chariot races, which this year was my first year attending and I must say they are a lot of fun to watch. I thought it was a great opportunity to capture video as I had never seen anything like it before, though there were other people with camera phones and video cameras I still thought it would be a nice addition to my portfolio. After editing the video and posting it on YouTube as well as my website, I continued on filming and editing other videos. Then about a week or so ago while working on a friend's ranch (The West Ranch), the rancher's wife approached me and said "Hey I saw your video on Facebook" and I said yeah I posted it on my page, she replied "No I saw it posted by someone else, some news station or something" then I said, okay, what are you talking about? So I go to search and sure enough a news radio station out of Cheyenne, Wyoming had published an article about the video, talking about how the Wyoming tradition of Cutter/Chariot races is still going.
This was a huge surprise to me and what was more shocking was seeing that several news stations in Wyoming had shared the original publication, one of which is News Break. I was pretty excited about this as it is my first time having my work published and recognized. I never would have thought one of my videos would make the news. This is a great example of why anyone with talent should never give up and always follow their dreams regardless of your location, whether you're in a big city or the smallest of towns. Even though it's not nationwide publishing or recognition other than being shared by News Break, it is still a big step in the right direction, it is still appreciated, it is still a success and I hope it can be an inspiration for others in small towns as well as big cities.
