Throughout the month of May, Koch VETS intend to inspire unity as we show our enduring gratitude to those who defend our homeland and safeguard the values for which we stand. This week, Public Service Recognition Week, we honor the men and women who serve our communities and our nation.
The ability of the federal government and state and local governments to be responsive, innovative and effective depends on the outstanding performance of dedicated public servants.
Public Service Recognition Week has been celebrated since 1985. The bipartisan resolution designated the first full week of May to honor the men and women who serve the nation as federal, state, county and local government employees. This period is to be dedicated to educating citizens about the ways in which government serves the people.
Public officers are the servants and agents of the people, to execute the laws which the people have made. – Grover Cleveland
Our public servants are honorable men and women who provide vital services to the American people, including teaching our children, keeping our Nation healthy, maintaining public safety, improving transportation, protecting our environment and performing management activities. Our way of life would not exist without the work of public employees.
There are approximately 23.4 million federal, state and local government employees in the United States; 4.1 million federal and 19.3 million state and local government employees.
Our country’s brave men and women in uniform make up the greatest Armed Forces in the world. They are made capable of defending our freedom because civilian employees at the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs work faithfully each day. In often difficult circumstances, our civil servants respond to natural disasters, search for cures for diseases, protect information networks, and improve quality of life for their fellow Americans. They remain focused on their mission of serving and protecting.
There’s no greater challenge and there is no greater honor than to be in public service. – Condoleezza Rice
During the current COVID 19 crisis, we have seen our Nation’s civil servants make extraordinary sacrifices on behalf of their fellow citizens. Through their diligence and support of our dedicated civil servants during this crisis, the American people remain protected and supported despite the unprecedented challenges. They are playing a vital role in providing necessary services, protecting the health and well-being and providing life-saving care, comfort and support in the best interests of the American people. And, they will continue playing a crucial role as we rebuild and restore our Nation.
Every day, our Nation’s civil servants help make America better, safer, and stronger. – President Donald J. Trump
Koch VETS are especially grateful to our devoted public servants. These men and women have answered the call to serve our nation and have placed public service over personal gain. They deliver results every day, often without acclaim and ensure government works for the American people.
