Public Cloud is not just another hosting strategy

Most organizations see Public Cloud as the launching pad to their digital agenda. It provides them a platform for greater innovation and agility to stay relevant and competitive. However, this all gets conveniently forgotten when they get into a business case for cloud. Sadly, most of the companies in their business case, treat Public cloud as another hosting strategy which points to the fundamental gap in understanding the various disruptive capabilities which a cloud offers vis-à-vis a legacy datacenter environment.

You can get cheap hosting anywhere. However, it’s difficult to comprehend a scenario of going global in minutes with your new business services or scale on demand with little or no stranded cost to handle peak loads with legacy datacenter environment? Public cloud is a unique platform which provides a better cost control through advantage of falling prices and use of latest technologies on a pay per use model. However, what is most important is that it does not discriminate between small and large customers in offering its new and innovative technologies or solutions. Despite more than 40 price cuts by AWS in the first 8 years of inception, most clients were ready pay the same amount if it means continued innovation. Hence the pressure is on the Public cloud providers to continue innovating especially around the Infrastructure services which seems to be losing steam since the launch of AWS lambda more than 3 years back. Ultimately, in today’s 24x7 world, as Steve Jobs said - Stay hungry, Stay foolish.
