PT Dave
PT Dave is an actual person a mate of mine knows. He's a PT and his name is Dave.
Many of us know a PT Dave, or have bumped into him in the gym or maybe he's a mate of your mate.
He's the epitome of a fitness professional.
He lives super clean and he can only talk about fitness, whatever the setting. He just can't turn it off.
He's the most knowledgeable in the room when it comes to exercise and nutrition.
But he's boring, out of touch and totally unrelatable to 99% of people.
If a trainer can't be empathetic, they won't get results with the vast majority of the people they train.
Exercise programming is a huge part of what we do, but we need to be able to relate to the people we train.
As trainers we need to understand the challenges the people we train face, in order to help keep them on track and pick them up when they fall off the wagon.
Generally a lot easier when we're used to falling off the wagon a fair bit ourselves ;)
When choosing a trainer, it's obviously important to find someone who knows training inside out. It's just as important to find someone who won't judge you for having a few drinks, or missing training when work gets crazy.
Pick a trainer you can be open with. If you don't get that vibe from them, then I don't think they truly can get the best from you over time.
Max
P.S: I'm not a PT Dave. I'm a PT Max. I don't know as many variations of sit up as Dave but I'm a lot more fun on a night out.
