MASTERCLASS #1: Psych Health and Safety 101

Psychological health and safety is the application of the risk management framework to understanding and preventing injuries arising from exposure to psychosocial hazards at work. The World Health Organisation, International Labour Organization, Health and Safety Executive (UK), and National Mental Health Commission (Australia) amongst other organisations, all promote the need to incorporate psychosocial risk management as a fundamental part of a holistic workplace mental health strategy.

This practical, half-day masterclass will cover the BASICS of psychological health and safety including:

  • What is psychological health and safety? (and how is this different to ‘psychological safety’)
  • What is a psychosocial hazard?
  • How do psychosocial hazards cause harm?
  • The level of harm caused by psychosocial hazards
  • What is a psychosocial risk assessment?
  • How to apply risk management principles to prevent harm from psychosocial hazards
  • How to apply the hierarchy of controls to address hazards at organisational and team levels
  • How to continuously monitor and improve psychosocial risk controls

Participants will learn by hearing about relevant examples from the experienced facilitators and workshopping examples with groups of peers.

Date: 18 June 2024 Time: 9am-midday Venue: Sofitel Wentworth Sydney Facilitators: Jason van Schie and Heather Ikin

MASTERCLASS #2: Developing a psychological health and safety framework

Over the past years, FlourishDx has been refining their approach to integrating sustainable approaches to psychological health and safety. They have done so through working with top-tier companies across a wide variety of industries, and investing in continuous learning and improvement.?

This workshop is a product of these learnings and experiences, providing a contemporary framework on embedding sustainable and effective practices for psychological health and safety within organisations. By having a framework to guide decision-making in this area, organisations may more effectively protect workers from harm, demonstrate alignment to regulatory expectations and promote a continuous improvement approach to psychological health and safety.?

This half-day masterclass will support you and your organisation in developing such a framework. It will cover topics such as:?

  • Identifying critical elements of an effective framework for psychological health and safety.
  • Developing an approach to psychosocial risk management that is resource efficient, evidence-informed, sustainable and aligned with regulatory expectations.
  • Identifying barriers to embedding a framework, and formulating strategies to overcome these barriers.
  • Understanding how to operationalise a risk-based approach to psychological heath and safety.?
  • How to effectively utilise available resources, relationships and common practices as a starting point for embedding the framework.?

Participants will leave the session with clear guidance on next steps and a plan to begin advancing practices within their own organisation. Facilitators will share examples from their own practice working with large organisations to inform discussions and provide additional inspiration to participants.

Date: 18 June 2024 Time: 1pm-4pm Venue: Sofitel Wentworth Sydney Facilitators: Joelle Mitchell and Andrew Toyer

For anyone considering joining Cohort 3, I highly recommend the program. The course provides a lot of information and support you won’t receive from a 1 or 3 day course. It enables you to share your personal experiences and hear others share theirs, which provides a safe space to work towards solutions with the guidance of professionals and experienced facilitators. They are a great team.
