This Psychologist Kicked Me Out Of The Therapy Rather Than Deal With The Countertransference
I had seen for myself that Dr. Eugene Pogany was burning out. When he came back from his vacation he looked more tired than before he left. I questioned him about his vacation. It appeared that his vacation had more to do with "family matters" than relaxing on a beach.
Also he was "tripping over himself" in the sessions. He was dumbfounded as to what to do or say with me. When I called him up over the weekend I suggested that he call his old supervisor to talk about his troubles dealing with me in the sessions. Maybe that was a very bold move by me, just a patient telling her doctor what he needed to do. It appeared too much. And he was clearly triggered. He wrote back a one sentence email telling me the therapy was OVER! This was after 2 YEARS! He did NOT want a last session. He did not want to discuss what happened. He unilaterally decided to abort the therapy in a EMAIL! The coward didn't even want to do it face to faced!!!!!!
Of course this was abandonment in an EXTREME FORM! He could not deal with the countertransference - his feelings and reactions over something I said. He had unresolved issues of his own that clearly got triggered when I mentioned that he needed help and was burning out. Instead of dealing with these feelings, which would have promoted his own growth as a person he decided to avoid them altogether by getting rid of the source that was triggering them, me the patient.

Again, this was another psychologist that worked out of his home and had no supervision. I wrote an article about psychologists that work for themselves in isolation out of their homes are highly susceptible to these kind of transgressions.
