??The P.S.V ??? P.R.V????Pressure Safety Valves (PSV) are also commonly referred to as simply Safety Valves. They are used to relieve pressure from equipment operating "Gases". Generally the valve opens suddenly, at an instant.??Pressure Relief Valves (PRV) are also commonly referred to as simply Relief Valves. They are a type of Safety Valve. They are used to relieve pressure from equipment operating "Liquids". Generally the valve opens relatively gradually and proportionally.??The function of both PSV and PRV is that they relieve the excess pressure from the system by opening automatically and they get closed automatically when the pressure in the system normalizes.??The primary purpose of a safety valve is the protection of life, property, and environment. The function of the Safety Valve is to protect life and property against failure to control system pressures, ie.. it offers the last means of reducing system pressure by releasing flow before total failure.??How to Select A Safety Valve??1??According to the media (air, gas, steam, liquid).2??Set pressure, popping pressure, and relieve pressure.3??According to the required capacity for the application.4??Factors such as temperature, back pressure, and corrosive media or environment must be considered.5??According to the operational characteristics.6??Normal working pressure is the operating pressure of the system under full load.7??Maximum allowable working pressure, it is the maximum pressure existing normal operating conditions.8??Set pressure, it is the pressure at which the valve starts to lift.9??Overpressure, it is the pressure that exceeds the set pressure and the valve starts to lift in this pressure.??As per API 521 standard There are several reasons why the pressure in a vessel or system can exceed a predetermined limit. API 521 provides detailed guideline about causes of overpressure. Common causes of overpressure as under??1??Blocked discharge.2??Exposure to external fire, generally known as “fire case”.3??Thermal expansion.4??Chemical reaction.5??Heat exchanger tube rupture.6??Cooling system failure.????A Safety Valve has a singular purpose ??
