PSSI Celebrates the Retirement of Tim Boyd

PSSI Celebrates the Retirement of Tim Boyd

The PSSI family is honored to celebrate the retirement of Tim Boyd , Director of Project Management and Principal.? We are grateful for Tim’s 17 years of dedication to our team, our clients, and our projects.

Like most in the construction industry, Tim Boyd was born into a family of builders.? At an early age Tim worked alongside his father, a plasterer, mixing mud and carrying hod on the weekends.? It was during this time that Tim learned the value of hard work and the satisfaction of bringing home a paycheck.? But it wasn’t all work for Tim.? He was also an athlete in High School, playing baseball and football and enjoyed time off the jobsite with his dad hunting birds in Mexico.? Tim remembers that time fondly “We worked to hunt.? Whatever I did I worked hard at it.”

Tim didn’t get to where he is now just by following in his father’s footsteps.? Tim is a relationship man and grew to be respected by his friends and coworkers, known for his integrity and loyalty.? Because of this and his work ethic, Tim was offered on-the-job learning opportunities straight out of High School.

“I basically outworked everyone else to make up for my ignorance. One superintendent said he liked hiring me because I could build something, screw it up and rebuild it correct faster than anyone else could do it the first time. I took that as a compliment.” Tim laughs.?

Tim is no stranger to rolling up his sleeves and getting his hands dirty.? No problem is too small for Tim, and he prefers to face them head on, Face-to-face.? James Simpson, COO admires this about Tim “There are not a lot of people that run towards the fire, he is one of them.”

John Shelby, Retired VP of Operations at PSSI, met Tim in the 1980’s working together at Nielsen Construction. ?After joining Dan Fitzgerald at Pacific Southwest Structures Inc. (now known as PSSI) John approached Tim about coming to work with them in 2003.? Tim’s integrity and commitment to complete an existing project kept him from joining them until 2006.? ?

Dan Fitzgerald, President, and Founder of PSSI remembers hiring Tim “One of my biggest regrets was not waiting 4 months until he was available to come to PSSI, he had to honor his commitment, I respected that, but we had to suffer through a couple of less than ideal project managers for 2 years.”

Once Tim joined the firm, he was immediately integrated into the PSSI family.? He was well respected by clients, coworkers, and subcontractors.? He was known for being firm but fair, a reliable, steady, seasoned professional.? He had a positive impact on the team and also brought a quick sense of humor to the job.

Tim Jette, Director of Preconstruction and Estimating, started working with Tim in 2014. “Boyd has been a backbone for PSSI since I joined.? His work ethic and knowledge of the construction industry have been an important part of the company’s success.?? His presence has been more than just that of a colleague; he has been a cornerstone of our team, providing guidance, support, and a wealth of knowledge that has made us all better.”?

When asked about his time at PSSI, Tim remembers both the good times and the challenging times. “There were a lot of really good times and a few tough years that we fought through, but we always came out the other side in good shape. The many fishing trips to La Paz, Mex., Sitka AK, Golf outings etc., it was always a good time.”

Now that Tim is looking toward retirement, he plans on replacing his PPE with his cowboy hat and boots. “I’m looking forward to working to improve our small ranch in Descanso, riding my horses and roping pretty much daily. ?If I can, I'll talk my non-retired friend into leaving work early, jackpot roping in Arizona and not have to worry about coming home at any certain time.”
