Now Let’s Eat Some Meat!

Verse 1: "O Lord, how my enemies have increased! Many are rising up against me."

Relevance to Today’s Believers: Believers may face overwhelming challenges and adversaries, but like David, we can and should turn to God in prayer, which acknowledges His sovereignty over our circumstances.

Verse 2: "There is no help [no salvation] for him in God.” Selah. [pause, and calmly think of that]!"

Relevance to Today’s Believers: In times of difficulty, others may doubt God's ability to help, however believers definitely find reassurance in God's promises and faithfulness to us and to His Word and Promises

Verse 3: "But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory [and my honor], and the One who lifts my head."

Relevance to Today’s Believers: God is our protector and source of honor, lifting us up in times of trouble and restoring our confidence.

Verse 4: "With my voice I was crying to the Lord, And He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah. [pause, and calmly think of that]!"

Relevance to Today’s Believers: Believers can approach God with our prayers and concerns, trusting that He hears and answers them according to His will.

Verse 5: "I lay down and slept [safely]; I awakened, for the Lord sustains me."

Relevance to Today’s Believers: Despite the turmoil around him, David found peace and rest in God's protection. Today, we believers can also find comfort in God's sustaining presence.

Verse 6: "I will not be intimidated or afraid of the ten thousands Who have set themselves against me all around.”

Relevance to Today’s Believers: David's confidence in God's protection allowed him to face his enemies without fear. Believers can likewise face challenges with courage, knowing that God is with us. See Psalm 91- “A thousand may fall at your side And ten thousand at your right hand, But danger will not come near you.”

Verse 7: "Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheek; You have shattered the teeth of the wicked."

Relevance to Today’s Believers: David calls on God to act against his enemies, trusting in God's justice and deliverance. Believers can also trust in God's righteous judgment and deliverance from our adversaries. See Hebrews 10:30-31 “For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine [retribution and the deliverance of justice rest with Me], I will repay [the wrongdoer].” And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” It is a fearful and terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God [incurring His judgment and wrath].”

Verse 8: “Salvation belongs to the Lord; May Your blessing be upon Your people. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!"

Relevance to Today’s Believers: David acknowledges that ultimate salvation comes from God alone, and he prays for God's blessing on His people. Today, believers can also seek God's blessing and salvation for ourselves and others.
