Proving Ground. Pushing Boundaries.
There is no rest during the off-season here at IMSA. Next week, at Daytona International Speedway, we host our 2nd sanctioned test for new 2023 cars. After recharging over the holiday with our friends and families, we head straight into the Roar Before the 24, January 20th-22nd, leading us into the iconic season opener Rolex 24 at Daytona, January 26th-29th. ?
During testing, I look forward to welcoming back old friends from Porsche and BMW and reconnecting with our friends at Acura and Cadillac as they fine-tune in preparation for the eagerly anticipated introduction of the new 2023 Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) Hybrid cars. The GTP name hearkens to a previous “Golden Era†of the IMSA prototype competition. From 1981 to 1993, IMSA GTP featured innovative prototypes pushing boundaries for emerging technologies such as antilock braking (ABS) and traction control while also emphasizing limiting fuel consumption.
The class of 2023 continues the tradition of introducing innovations and exploring limits; the IMSA platform remains the proving ground for future technology with an all-new hybrid powertrain system, renewed emphasis on fuel economy, sustainability, and green initiatives.
I’m equally enthralled with all our manufacturer’s growing commitment (A record number of 18 manufacturers) to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, several of which are introducing their new-generation GT3 specification (GTD-GT Daytona in IMSA) models for the 2023 season. These cars are the finest, most highly tuned examples of their road-going vehicles. I’ll get my first glimpse of what’s in store for us next season with Porsche (992 GT3 R), Ferrari (296 GT3), and Lamborghini (Huracán GT3 EVO) all participating in the test.
