Providing Options and Alternatives to Add Value
Helping customer acquire material by offering them several options can be the key to saving them time and money. When a customer calls asking for an item it is always customer for us to offer that product if we have it in stock along with providing a few options as well. Even if a customer calls knowing exactly what they want I will still offer some options especially if we have something in our surplus inventory. As an example, I had a customer call in looking for some 5.5” thick plate. Unfortunate we didn’t have that exact thickness, but I did have a piece of 5.75” thick that I had a significantly reduced price. They did have to machine the plate downs some but even after the additional cost to do so, our pricing still helped them save money!
