Provides Effective Results
Rubén Bernardo Guzmán Mercado
IT Cordinator, Information Technology and Cybersecurity Specialist, IT Manager, Think outside the box!!!!
Productivity is a general term that summarizes the ability of an individual to do things efficiently and effectively, in 22 years in IT management, I have always encountered great resistance to change, so it is important to have a good adaptability and a lot of determination to increase competitiveness and vision to achieve the results of the company, this process can also be applied to life in general.
At the same time, and due to the demands of responsibility, I developed the ability to direct effort towards results. Nowadays, some companies consider that a results-oriented person focuses strictly on achieving results, no matter how they do it. Normally this includes not considering people and this should not be the case, it goes totally against the ethics of a leader, especially if you have staff under your charge, I am sure that this must basically be related to the motivation that leads a person to make an effort and give a good interest in the goals and objectives indicated, as well as create their own compatible goals to achieve.
What is Results Orientation?
In my opinion it is looking for the best way to obtain results and be really effective, it is to work intelligently, there will also be, on many occasions, working systematically, seeking continuous improvement in activities, processes and procedures, ensuring that they are integrated with the objectives and goals of the business, it is evident that it comes with a surface of responsibility, in this way I emphasize continuous improvement, we must always be improving ourselves and be creative in innovation, including reengineering, to guarantee productivity by optimizing resources human, technical and material.
For this reason, I consider that it is one of the skills most in demand by companies, however, I want to point out that this does not mean that anything goes to achieve results or that the end justifies the means, this is not the case, as I mentioned. Results orientation is a competence and skill applied in the execution of processes to achieve a defined result.
In the same circumstances, it is related to the ability to adapt to changes in project conditions and thereby also obtain the desired results and find new opportunities of interest, using the lessons learned technique.
The integration of IT into the business has always led me to have long-term goals, which have always allowed me to seek the best and assume responsibility in making decisions regarding them, taking the responsibility that my position demands, of course. setting new goals this is very important, and I recommend you not to get stuck in just getting something and that's it, staying there, it is not convenient, that is falling into a comfort zone, over and over again, creating a vicious cycle, which undoubtedly harms your professional image and the business, because you stop it.
So, you have to seek maximum performance, work above standards, work as a team for a common goal, adapt to changes and accept mistakes, continue and quickly focus on the expected results, even if this means continually reviewing the strategy. or business strategies.
However, talking to friends and colleagues, I have observed that many companies confuse the term, as we have mentioned, and use it as a linear referent, they know that results orientation sounds good, but many of them do not even know what it is and think that It is only to achieve the results that the company wants, whatever they are and regardless of the means.
"The postponement of a task is a practice that hinders the achievement of our personal and professional objectives"
I would like to make the following recommendations, to a large extent to young people who have just joined, it is a work activity, since there are some details that are not taught in school:
Adaptability
The ability to adapt means being flexible and working in a good variety of individual or group situations, without any problem, developing the ability to quickly understand and appreciate the differences, changes and opposing perspectives of a situation, for this reason think and analyse the changes and place yourself in front of them, adapt as soon as possible to these changes, there will always be changes in your company or organization, in order to achieve the proposed objectives.
How would you do it?
Consider that the vision of a person who works results-oriented is that of someone with a strategist mentality, so try to identify your adaptation process, even when you think it is the same or that you have reached your limit, because it is not. , there are experts who have defined different ways of putting this competence into practice and there are specific methodologies that pay more attention to some aspects than to others, for example, it will not be the same to orient yourself towards the seller than towards customer excellence, maybe on occasions converge, but if they do not, you have to apply different methodologies, be careful because that is where you will define your objective.
Define the goal
This is going to be the guideline that determines the whole set of your actions, so it is convenient for you to reduce it to a sentence to be able to mentally refer to it on each occasion, however, it is also necessary to develop it to specify details that must be taken into account of your person, work on your internal structure, define yourself!
A map of the process
This is already a little more advanced, in this case you will define the different phases through which you are going to position yourself in front of the projects and what resources are available to carry out each one of them, you will have to define how you are going to act, here This is where the strategic vision of results-oriented professionals comes into play.
Organize the agenda and allocate resources
You must establish a certain time for the completion of each phase, the human and material resources that are required, where they are assigned and with which accounts, to have the possibility of achieving the appropriate results, in this process, there is already an iteration with the nearest team.
Set priorities
It is necessary to classify the tasks according to their priority and importance, this is linked to the defined goals and objectives, so you must identify which ones are dependent and what can be expected, in the same way detect which ones are key, for these they will always have to be addressed urgently, this point is very important.
How to measure the solution to problems?
Results measurement
As indicated, this recommendation is linked to the definition of some measurement indicators (KPI), based on the data obtained in each phase, this requires a great capacity for analysis, reaction and adaptation, we must understand the mistakes made and make the pertinent corrections or, failing that, identify points for improvement, as well as the reasons for the obstacles that have appeared throughout the process.
It is logical to think that this competence is internally linked to other characteristics that professionals must have, such is the case of a strategic vision to draw a clear line of action, as well as an overall vision to understand the level of complexity of the goal to be achieved and thus be able to make the appropriate decisions, of course one must have the ability to pay attention to detail, thus avoiding foreseeable errors and being knowledgeable about all the processes that lead to the achievement of the established challenge.
Polishing the Diamond
"Results Oriented Competition"
Analyse when each phase ends and consider, if necessary to make an adjustment, ADAPT!
You can control what you can measure, remember this, if you recap at the end of each phase and adjust the strategy based on the needs, with the speed of reaction capacity and adequate adaptation, it will be evident that the allocation of the invested resources and objectives achieved is convenient, with the team analyse the obstacles that have stood in the way and what have been the drivers that have allowed each phase to be completed. As a starting point, your team must be motivated and with clear objectives.
Apply the conclusions and persevere.
Everything that has been correctly concluded from the analysis is taken into account to move on to the next phase with the planned results, then, if risks must be taken, it will be done in a calculated way, maintain your perseverance throughout the process, and it is contagious by example to the team.
In all work activities it is required that there be a well integrated work team, let us bear in mind that the benefits when it comes to achieving objectives have caused this skill to be one of the most demanded in professional profiles, according to the Infoempleo-Adecco Report, 53.8% of recruiters indicate that the most valued interpersonal skill is, as suggested, being results-oriented.
In my case, as an IT Manager, by having and belonging to a committed work team, I often achieve efficiency in our processes and add value to the service we provide, since it must meet the needs of the organization and at the same time those of its users, in all the companies where I have had the opportunity to work.
Team work
When you are responsible for an area you have to work as a team, then you must lead your staff to achieve the results set, on the other hand, if you are a member of the team you must support the team by quickly joining the synergy of business goals.
The ability to work in a team is framed within the organizational capacity of a company and its success when it comes to meeting objectives, of course it is quantifiable and can be taught and encouraged to follow the strategy that directs the team's action, you must visualize that each member is committed to a part that, when shared with the rest, makes the strategy that has been defined in advance work.
A good example:
Henry Ford was the founder of the Ford Motor Company, one of the first mass production chains, the methods used by the company have been a production model imitated for decades by the industry, the following phrase is attributed to this character:
"Getting together is the beginning, staying together progress, teamwork is success"

How do you work as a team?
For this point, I will mention Tom Peters, a distinguished expert in business management practices, who developed the theory of the 5 Cs from his research, looked at what high-performing teams had in common and in summary these were his conclusions:
Coordination
The organization is necessary, commonly it will be a leader who coordinates the activities of the different members to fulfil a strategy that has been defined in advance, although there are less vertical forms of organization.
Communication
Communication between the different members of the team must be open and functional, channels must be provided to facilitate it in different ways.
Trust
Each member of the team trusts that the rest fulfil their part of the project, for this reason this step is important, so as not to overestimate their own contribution compared to that of the rest, seeking personal brilliance. I think that this is a bad practice that leads to a bad atmosphere in the team.
Collaboration
Each member masters a part of the project and is specialized in an area, complementing each other is necessary to get the job done.
Commitment
Each member of the team agrees to contribute their worth and commitment to fulfil their tasks and give priority to the common objective that has been proposed.
This sounds very nice, but what happens if something fails? One of Napoleon's most popular phrases opens the panorama a bit: "No plan survives intact beyond the first contact with the opponent", to solve possible failures we must have been having Contingency Plans, which are plans and strategies that must be drawn up at the same time as the action plans, and review as the Action Plan progresses and thus question:
To the extent that we have previous answers to these simple questions, we will be anticipating success with obstacles in mind, even so, I will tell you there are many more questions, the previous ones are by way of example.
This recommendation is very special, the constancy of monitoring, in the dashboards, in the indicators and KPI's that help us in this crucial task of monitoring the implementation of the Plan, from experience I recommend you to be careful when this argument is presented:
?????How many times have we heard this “Great plan, lousy execution?”
So this constant monitoring prevents a good plan that can be very well-defined, very well communicated, can be as complete as you want, with great detail, but the truth is that many of them end up in people's drawers. , if you do not follow up and in the same way if you do not motivate the team to self-evaluate.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read me, I hope it will be helpful for young men and women who have the possibility of acquiring more leadership responsibilities and of course for professionals with an area of responsibility and staff under their charge.
I highly recommend the reflection that María Carla Silveira Taboadela included in the article because her position is very motivating.
My brief but eventful experience.
Evidently, leadership schemes have changed, since the priorities of modern society bring with them the reinterpretation of organizational processes and the surrounding environment with a new vision. Personally, I see the ability to adapt as part of the capacity maturation process, both under psychological and behavioral aspects. And that this is neither clear nor simple, since sometimes (many) it is easy to concentrate on the wrong things, but when we are faced with new problems, this already leads to correct decisions always under the umbrella of experience.
The incorporation of measurement criteria with discriminative values is essential to achieve the proposed objectives and this must be kept in mind at all times and organize the strategy based on compliance. But progress is not only accompanied by success, sailing in murky waters is part of the adventure. And it is that we are not robots, stress is also part of that opponent in Napoleon's phrase.
And here many of the outlined tasks and priorities collapse. The center is not the technology, it is the staff. Then this makes the commitment become natural, and the 5 C's are fulfilled.
Excellent reflection.
