Providers with Medical Billing Sinkholes

Providers with Medical Billing Sinkholes

Do you ever feel your billing staff takes the "easy" way out and adjusts off balances? Are you receiving increasing complaints from patients that their insurance wasn't billed properly? Do you wonder why you are working more and the cash coming in does not reflect your work?

Medical billing is more than pushing a button to send claims out - anyone who can follow instructions can do that. Its what happens next that is critical to your medical practice. Payments and adjustments must be applied properly to avoid erroneous billing to patients or adjusting balances that can be researched.

Money will be thrown down this sink hole unless medical billers make the effort to follow up timely on rejections, denials, and claims with no-response. How do you as the provider monitor this? Ask for a claims status report showing rejections, denials, and no response. No response claims are claims that were filed approximately 30 days or more prior with no payment, denial, or other correspondence from the payer.

Ask questions. I pride myself on having transparency in our billing operations showing providers what to look for and to notify us if they feel their accounts are not being worked properly. This enables open and honest conversation without being confrontational - because it is based on data.

If you think you may be slowly falling into this sinkhole - or if the ground has already fallen beneath you, give me a call and we can talk through your situation. Sinkholes are not death, they are obstacles to overcome.
