Proudly walking with a Legend

Proudly walking with a Legend

I was Lee Trevino's caddy for a one day exhibition at Fort Jackson, SC, back in March of 1973.  He played magnificently that day shooting a 68 and hitting many really impressive shots!  Although he doesn’t remember me or the following event, I’m sure, but on hole #10, he asked me how far he was from the hole for his second shot.  I told him 100 yards.  He kind of shrugged his shoulders, tilted his head, gave me the look and said, “am I 100 yards, 98 yards, 103 yards, or what”?  I just told him 100 yards once again.  He got ready to hit the ball and right when he finished his routine and before he began to swing he looked up and staired me straight in the eye and said, “I'm going to hole it”.   The rest is history.  The ball hit the green three feet past the pin and drew back into the hole while the fans went crazy.  An eagle for Lee, and a couple of crazy moves as he approached the pin.  Go figure!  What a great  ambassador for the game of golf and making an incredible day for a high school golfer from South Carolina, a day I will never forget!  .
