It’s an interesting one, how some people just simply don’t like to see others succeed.
Over the last few months, I have had several conversations with people regarding the awards that we win, nominated for, or become finalist of, most of these conversations tend to be positive.
However, some, you can just tell do not have an appreciation or understanding of why awards, achievements and accolades are important.
We all know some can be bought, some can be easy to achieve, however there are a lot of great awards out there that carry huge amount of credibility.
For example, some that we have been part of (not exhaustive) –
There is a mix here of industry specific awards, local awards, national awards and health-based awards. All very relevant to our business.
So, the question is… Why?
Firstly, it’s great to be recognised for efforts that we have single-handedly achieved, by our peers. This instils confidence in what you are delivering as a service!
Secondly, the value of a great award is far more than a certificate or trophy, it should be used in all your marketing going forwards. It builds ‘brand value’, so when people ask about how to build a brand. This is one part of that strategy.

Third and finally, if you win an award – you’ve fucking deserve it! You’ve worked hard and got recognised for it. You can’t look down your nose at someone’s success just because you either can’t be bothered to create your own or simply aren’t good enough. There are two sides of the coin!
Having awards builds trust and credibility. For instance, when you are tendering for work, they should be considered. I will always tell people –
“The DM Lab was recognised as one of five globally by an industry recognised award”.
This alone is a powerful line, there are only 4 other agencies globally that were in the same category could say the same. If you weren’t one, ask yourself why instead of dismissing somebody else’s success.
It’s great for PR and, believe it not, it’s equally great for SEO When I work with clients, I get them to understand the value of appearing in off-page content, creating both backlinks and contextual backlinks to a website.
I tell customers I don’t do fluff and our agency doesn’t. It’s targeted. It is calculated. It is with an objective. Naturally it helps if you do win or get the final and you need to be able to back this up with the services you provide. However, understanding the true value of good content marketing of which awards form part of, is the key to succeeding online.
Don’t get starry eyed by fluff that is thrown at you, we must be on this platform because it’s the future… Don’t forget all these platforms are just a way to deliver a message or syndicate content.
It’s the thing that goes on them that forms the strategy!
We want to be successful. We do everything in our power to be successful. Ultimately, we need to do enough to be judged to be better than others. It is this area that we ensure we, as a business, do everything in our power to be everything we can be. We’re not here to coast, we’re here to make a difference to your business and with business success, we can do even more to support the community.
There is method to our madness!

1 年“I don’t do fluff” ?? I can verify this! And, it’s one of the reasons I love our meetings, neither of us ‘do fluff’ With awards, I get very annoyed with the ones that can be bought or the ones where the companies who have sponsored one category are the ones winning in another category. These so-called ‘awards’ undermine one’s which are deservedly won on merit and skill. That said, we shouldn’t allow those falsities to stop people being proud of the genuine ones ??

1 年Good read and very wise and valid points. The key trick for all is to always remain humble and keep ones feet firmly on the ground; always remember where you came from, something I know you absolutely embrace. Good skills Chris.
