Be Proud of Your Body: Embracing the Story It Tells

Your body tells your life story. It’s a living, breathing journal of your experiences, your struggles, your triumphs, and your growth.
Sometimes, the story is written without our permission—stretch marks, scars, or changes we didn’t expect. Other times, it’s intentional—tattoos, piercings, or the way we choose to adorn ourselves.
But every part of it matters. Every part of it deserves love. My body has been here for decades and experienced so much. Weight loss. Weight gain. Weight loss again. And now, a more balanced maintenance phase. That’s part of my story—a journey of learning how to fuel my body and understanding what it needs (and doesn’t need) to feel its best.
Then there are my tattoos—my favorite form of self-expression. Each one holds meaning and tells its own story. I don’t have a single “favorite,” but some are undeniably more special than others. One that stands out is a sugar skull tattoo I’ve had for 15 years. It’s deeply tied to my Mexican heritage and symbolizes something profoundly personal: the children I didn’t have in this lifetime. I think I always knew that would not be part of my journey, and this tattoo became a way to honor that understanding and hold space for it in my life.
But let me be honest—loving my body hasn’t always come naturally to me. For years, I thought my body had to look a certain way to be “worthy.” I focused on what I thought was wrong with it instead of appreciating everything it does for me every single day. My thinning hair? My unpredictable menstrual cycle? The weekly migraines? They’re all part of the story my body is telling—part of my story, mi historia.
The way I feel about my body and body positivity has shifted. I recognize the journey my body has been on as I’ve grown into myself and stepped into my purpose. My body has always been there for me—even when I wasn’t there for it.

I choose to love my body for what it is: a vessel that allows me to experience life fully. It absorbs energy, helps me feel connected to the world around me, and gives me the strength to pursue my dreams. It’s not perfection. I’ve learned to live in unity with my body, nourishing it with plant-based energy and listening more closely to what it needs.
It’s a lifelong journey—a relationship that requires care and attention—but these days, I’m present for it in a way I never was.
I invite you to reflect on your own story—the one your body tells—and find pride in it. Whether you’re still learning how to love your body or you’ve already found peace with it, remember this: Your body is worthy of love simply because it exists. It carries you through this life, and that alone makes it extraordinary.
Let’s celebrate our bodies—not for how they look but for everything they do for us every single day.
Con amor a la vida!

1 周I really love this. Growing up with both a limb difference and severe scoliosis (that through surgery left a 12 inch scar on me), it has taken me a lot to fall in love with my body. But when I think about how this body walked 300 miles across Spain in 20 days or how it birthed 2 beautiful children, I am so thankful. And yes to the tattoos. They are a beautiful way to honor loss or commemorate milestones. I have one for my brother who passed in 2005 and one that says, “She conquered her demons and wore her scars like wings”. That was when I realized I had let go of a lot of the shame holding me back. Thank you for sharing your story and reminding us our body is a vessel and temple. ??

2 周I love this so much! Our bodies are truly magical and worthy of appreciation. I discovered my passion for tattooing through the desire to find ways to love my body more. The art form has helped me to see myself as art, and I have loved collecting stories and memories through tattoos. Thanks for the lovely read!
