Proud to belong - Inside the Mind of a Nuix Product Manager: Bridging Business, Tech, and Customer Needs
We recently sat down with Vidhya Natarajan, Product Manager, to tap into her mind and find out what it’s like to be a Product Manager at Nuix. Passionate about bridging the gap between customers, business and technical realms, Vidhya holds a masters in strategy and marketing which inspired her to step into the role of a product manager.
?
So Vidhya, tell us what inspired you to pursue a career in this field?
I started my career as a quality engineer and it was always an interest of mine to move into the business side because you get to see the full picture. As a product manager you act as the bridge between the customer, business and the technical teams, getting involved with shaping the strategy, understanding the user needs and why we build the product. After working as an engineer for four years I completed my masters in strategy and marketing and then transferred into product management. Then three years ago I joined Nuix!
?
What was it that attracted you to Nuix?
The opportunity to work with smart people and great minds! Working with investigation software and eDiscovery was something that interested me and I’ve never worked in that space before.
?
You’re very passionate about what you do, but what is it that motivates you to come to work everyday?
Every day is different! In my role as a Product Manager, I face a variety of challenges and play a lot of roles. I can be doing anything from speaking to our customers to understand their needs, working with the engineering team, or working with the marketing team. So, no day is the same for me, that’s what I love.

Looking back on your career so far, what’s the best advice you’ve been given?
Always consider challenges as an opportunity to learn and grow. If you’re tasked with something that feels daunting, change your perspective and see it as an opportunity to contribute, grow and learn.
?
And what would you say has been a real career defining moment so far?
As a product manager, a few years ago I worked on the launch of a Community Support Agriculture platform. The project exposed me to various challenges such as aligning stakeholders, designing a user-friendly platform, and establishing reliable supply chains for fresh produce delivery. These challenges gave me the opportunity to collaborate with cross functional teams including engineering, design, marketing and operations to develop a platform that catered to customers and farmers, which really affirmed my passion for product management. It was a great experience working with so many teams to deliver meaningful solutions for customers and businesses.

What advice would you give someone who was looking to get into a career as a Product Manager?
When you’re speaking to customers, really understand what problems are? before building features. Really dig deep and continuously ask ‘why?’ until you’ve fully uncovered the need.
?
And finally, how would you describe Nuix company culture in 3 words?
Smart. Fast. Transparent.
Great story Vidhya Natarajan with some key insights!!
