PROTOTYPING - SHELFING OF YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE

PROTOTYPING - SHELFING OF YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE

One of the challenges as a startup owner or a business manager is to describe the whole portfolio of offering you have to others. One approach is to sort all products, services and solutions into three shelves: The product, service and solution shelves

Every product or service we offer to the customers can be segregated into three categories - Solution, Service and Product

The solution portfolio can further segregated into a 9 box format representing like a shelf.

  • The target segment - In development intervention, it could be the individual, teams and organisation
  • Broad category of the solution - In this case, the solution could be specific, close looping and broad
  • It will include the specific solution in every category across the target segment

Similarly the Product Portfolio and the service portfolio can be segregated into a 9 box format

The categorization that is being shared is with respect to my start up. You could discover who starting from the unit level to the global level and at a broader level what are the offerings

The Next Step

Once the segments are clearly defined, the next step will be to fill in the boxec with your offerings. Your offerings may or may not cover all the 9 boxes. However, you do get an idea what is being covered and what could be done next

The? key advantages of the shelfing approach

  • You can identify the gaps in offering in the portfolio
  • You can develop interventions to fill the gaps
  • You develop an understanding of the products in a direct and visual manner
  • You develop an understanding of of the product vision
